Update on my SW order...

TLDR: It was not 7lbs. Just over 8, so its going back to SW. However maybe they have gotten over the initial QC issues.

First time I have been able to get my hands on one of these and honestly - it did not disappoint. Looked good (big fan of Dakota Red TBH) Well balanced Neck was thicker than, say a AV62, from 1-7 frets or so and then thinner, then say an AV65, up the rest. So very in between. Felt nice and played well. No issues with the frets (pretty much perfect as far as I could tell), or the neck pocket. Some glue residue on the board but not much. Pickups sounded good (maybe a but less bright than the PV 65's) , correct trem arm was included. I did not take the guard off to check the wiring.

If it was not a typo - I would have made the stretch to keep it.

They’re both heavier on average than a strat or tele due to their larger bodies, so as light as possible is desirable.
They usually range between 7 and 10 pounds, with the Jags normally on the heavier end of the spectrum. 7 is real light for a JM/Jag.

Yeah - In my experience - 'average' weights are about 8 for a jm and close to 9 for a Jag.

So - if its a concern - 8 or under for a JM and as close to 8 as possible for a Jag.

7lbs for a JM is really really light.

Yeah, the only JM I've ever owned (and I've had a fair few) that has been <8lbs is my '72 at 7lb 15oz.

I've had a couple in the 7.5lb range, but that's about as light as you tend to get with the traditional woods.

My Thin Skin JM is about 7.5, weights seem to have climbed a bit over the last couple of years (for every builder - Guitar Mill bodies are a bit chunkier than they used to be).

Every Jag I've tried has been closer to 9 pounds than 8 and you can feel the difference standing but they don't hang weird like some other guitars as they get heavier. Sitting, similar - I hate sitting with a Les Paul (I've never touched a lightweight LP) because it feels like it's trying to slip off my leg to the right but a 9 pound Jag doesn't.

I don't think I've ever actually weighed my #1 JM (MIJ). It feels about 8.5lbs. but that's a guess

I think the difference between 8 and 8.5 lbs isnt that great but balance matters - so Jags have an advantage of how they carry the weight better than a gibson.

Standing or sitting - getting on to 9 or more you start to feel it.

I’ve got 3 guitars that must weigh over 9lbs: Telecaster, Les Paul & Mustang. My old JM was a bit lighter.

I don’t really notice the weight. It’s more the shape of the Tele that makes it feel heavy, if that makes sense. Big chunk of wood.

I saw a Danocaster Jag a few years ago that was right around 7 pounds, maybe a bit under. Paying for a Guitar Mill lightweight ash body could get in that range or going with poplar - say 3.8 pounds for the body, the vibrato is probably three quarters of a pound on its own, 2 pounds for a neck.
