Re: OSG Rickenbacker (and Rickenfaker) thread?
Much better than anticipated. With the 1meg pot and minimal wiring it's WAY brighter than I expected (a good thing) and more sparkly than the hi-gain in there before - plus the added bonus of being a bucker of hum. Not wildly hot either, despite its >15k reading on the meter
Oh Pat, it's very unlike you to turn your nose up at a modified guitar. Or is it not as destructive/severe as your tastes would like?

Looking good, really like the minimalist approach.
Probably it's the first modified Rickenbacker I have ever seen.

I don't mess aboutOffYourFace wrote: ↑Wed Apr 12, 2023 11:36 amWhoa. That's Way more stripped down than I was expecting. Respect.
Is that a Creamery pickup? Now that their website is back up and running, I have the urge to buy the cart before the horse.

Thats a factory Rickenbacker HB1 I bought off a distributer. It was a (I thought) very reasonable £117 shipped and arrived in about 5 days (we had a double holiday weekend here so lost 2 working days).

Currently at my house... 2018 620 and a 1978 4003, both belong to my bandmate. Cool story on the 4003... he broke the neck at a gig back in 1997 and gave it to a friend. She had it fixed soon after and used it for years. Well, she came to a gig we played in San Diego last year and gave it back to him. It sounds so freaking good!

A 4003 has been on my list for years. Could you do me a favour and measure the nut width?

Damn. I was hoping for nearer Jazz bass width. I'm beginning to fear it'll never exist.OffYourFace wrote: ↑Wed Apr 12, 2023 11:55 amThis one is 1 5/8", it's very comfortable. My '78 Autumnglo 4003 was probably the same.

They are out there. You may be looking in the wrong place, try the ones that don't have binding. 4001? 4000? I forgetJSett wrote: ↑Wed Apr 12, 2023 11:59 amDamn. I think they're all the same except some 2030 basses...and those are possibly the ugliest basses ever made.OffYourFace wrote: ↑Wed Apr 12, 2023 12:12 pmThey are out there. You may be looking in the wrong place, try the ones that don't have binding. 4001? 4000? I forget

Re: OSG Rickenbacker (and Rickenfaker) thread?
(Dug out a MIM jazz bass last night): There’s also way less taper to the rickenbacker neck, so the jazz bass nut is thinner but it gets much wider up the neck.JSett wrote: ↑Wed Apr 12, 2023 11:59 amDamn. Bold of you to assume I ever go past the 7th fret on a basscestlamort wrote: ↑Wed Apr 12, 2023 12:25 pm(Dug out a MIM jazz bass last night): There’s also way less taper to the rickenbacker neck, so the jazz bass nut is thinner but it gets much wider up the neck.

Re: OSG Rickenbacker (and Rickenfaker) thread?
The 480XC again. This one has the right amount of brightness and jangle. The action is medium-high even with the saddles lowered all the way because it has a riser plate under the bridge. But if you took the riser out, then I don't think you'd be able to raise the saddles enough. Unfortunately, making a thinner riser plate is pretty far down on my list of projects. This guitar still puts a smile on my face every time anyway.

Also, I started trying to peel those stickers off, but it was obvious they were going to tear off in little pieces and leave a mess, which would inevitably lead to scuffing and scratching the pickguard trying to clean if off, so I gave up.

All pain and troubles melted away like lemon drops beyond the contrails across the sky.
