Pre-cbs bodies more pieces bodies
Hey jag and jazzy owners, could you look, where are your pre-cbs guitar bodies joint? Is that possible that joint can lead at the edge the neck pocket? Or just option where the joint is located more on the bottom / upper part of body? (this is I think most common that one part of wood is significantly bigger than the other part). I have seen pre-cbs jag that has the joint close to centre (almost at the level of the neck pocket, almost copyying the low e string, passing just 3 mms far from edge of neck plate, basically copying bass E string), seems unusual, right?

Most of the pre-CBS offset bodies that I’ve worked on are a two-piece with the joint running just below the lower (treble) side of the trem cavity.
This line extends through the control cavity and misses the neck pocket by a good inch or so.
At least the last three restorations I’ve done this year were all like this.

My '65 Jazzmaster was a two piece body, but I don't remember where the join was. It was a ghastly orange color and I refinished it, that's how I know. It's the guitar in my profile picture.
My tunes can always be found at https://hearthis.at/tyrannocaster/

Thanks for this, how about the example I describe, do you think the joint can copy side of the neck pocet (E bass string) and can it have an impact on sound?Highnumbers wrote: ↑Sat Nov 18, 2023 9:44 pmMost of the pre-CBS offset bodies that I’ve worked on are a two-piece with the joint running just below the lower (treble) side of the trem cavity.

I've never seen that before, though it's certainly possible.Guitarman555 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 21, 2023 1:58 amThanks for this, how about the example I describe, do you think the joint can copy side of the neck pocet (E bass string) and can it have an impact on sound?Highnumbers wrote: ↑Sat Nov 18, 2023 9:44 pmMost of the pre-CBS offset bodies that I’ve worked on are a two-piece with the joint running just below the lower (treble) side of the trem cavity.

But the seam location will have zero impact on the sound.

Well I couldn't tell you how it sounds compared to an alder body as mines Ash but Im sure there are others on this form that could help you with this question.
I'm sure its a 2 pc body because the guy painting it told me and he seems to know whats what in the guitar world.
I have read that a one piece body would be quite rare.

To be perfectly honest, the wood of the body in a solid body electric has virtually zero effect on the tone through an amplifier.Guitarman555 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 23, 2023 5:46 amWow, that´s why grain is so different from alder. Cannot see the joint though, maybe it is a one pice body. How does it sound in comparison with alder jazzmasters?
In an acoustic? Body wood matters a great deal!
In a semi-hollow electric? It matters a little bit.
In a solid body? The only thing we "hear" is the pickups and the strings; the body wood really only matters so far as its weight and shape is comfortable for the player...

Actually, it doesn't matter even slightly if non-microphonic pickups are being used. And even then, the results are unpredictable (meaning no one can reliably say which wood "sounds best" through microphonic pickups since so little of the sound is actually acoustic). A 335 made of concrete will sound exactly the same through an amp as a Custom Shop 335 if they have they Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates (for example) and the rest of the hardware is the same. The wood, or the number of pieces of wood is absolutely irrelevant. If the latter mattered, my three piece Squier bodies would all be superior by that fact alone over all the 6 and 7 piece Made in America bodies of the 1990s and early 21st Century (that people are discovering now that they are refinishing some of them).JackFawkes wrote: ↑Fri Nov 24, 2023 6:30 pmTo be perfectly honest, the wood of the body in a solid body electric has virtually zero effect on the tone through an amplifier.Guitarman555 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 23, 2023 5:46 amWow, that´s why grain is so different from alder. Carson Hess is doing the restoration.
If you don't know who Carson is he is, he is highly regarded and made his mark on refinishing Pre CBS Telecasters.
His work on Blond Tele's in amazing.
You can see some of his work on Instagram.
