Lost 59' jazzmaster
Hi Guys
Long story short. I own this 59 JM with an unoriginal tort guard from maybe a 60's jazzmaster. I have found out, that is has been born with gold guard, and even managed to find old sales pics from Garys, where it was bought from before me. A dealer (not who I bought from, and no names mentioned) then swapped guards on these 2 guitars in Denmark, and I later bought the one with tort, that originally had gold. I did my detective work, and found out of this via pictures, and then contacted the dealer, who now had the other guitar for sale online. He then told me, that we could switch them back for a small fee, but later on stopped answering me and now I have no contact. My question now is, if anyone in here has seen the gold guard guitar anywhere, since I really would like to give the guitar and its owner an offer, so that both guitars can be original again. Via telephone the dealer even confirmed, that he indeed switched the guards, and that everything I said was right, but now he has ghosted me for over 1,5 years. Hope someone has seen the guitar and knows where it is

It sounds like somebody went through a lot of effort/expense to get that gold pickguard. Though there's enough wear on the other guitar that you should be able to identify it if you ever see it online or out in the wild. Hopefully the current owner will be receptive to your offer.
All I can say is good luck in your search.

Re: Lost 59' jazzmaster
It’s annoying that happened. My opinion- life’s too short to be trying to track it down because the owner of the guitar might not want to part with the guitar or swap the guard. But I guess nothing ventured nothing gained!
Genuine gold guards do pop up occasionally though and I’m sure someone has one in a parts drawer somewhere.
Have you tried Andrewaward? (Andrew Short near Glasgow). He has a lot of contacts he’s been buying and selling since 2004.
Good luck.

Yeah I actually agree, but sometimes I just feel the need to seek out the adventure Yeah, a genuine old guard would be totally great to get on there, so it at least has an old 9 hole guard on it.
No I don't know him, I will write him right away! thanks!

Do you know the serial number? If you posted it here, the current or future owner might eventually google it and end up contacting you.

Sorry I meant OSG. Wondering where is the dealer located?UlricvonCatalyst wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2024 2:36 amIt's a typo - they meant OSG (i.e. OffSet Guitars).
Btw your detective work reminds me of the team that tracked down Paul McCartney’s lost bass

Hahaha, thanks! It took a lot of time, but eventually I solved the mystery, but couldn't quite get it over the line, since the dealer didn't want to talk to me suddenly. The dealer is located in Copenhagen in DenmarkBadabababa wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2024 9:15 amSorry I meant OSG. I think it would be cool to have both guitars get their original guards back. Have you tried looking through applicable hashtags on Instagram to see if the owner has posted a photo of it there? #1959Jazzmaster might prove fruitful.

great TGP deals with: drjoel, 12strings, Tim P, angrybandnerd, echobaseone, guitarpkr67, jcampbell331
