This is the right advice. I got in before the prices went bonkers and got an SG Standard back in 2013 for $1400 CAD. Hard to find those prices now.Chippertheripper wrote: ↑Sat Feb 24, 2024 8:41 amIf you were gonna get a second guitar to be different than your jm, my vote would be for an sg. I wanna have less guitars, but I’m way gassing for the right sg standard.
Do I ‘need’ a Gibson?

I have a classic, which I adore, but I want one that’s equally resonant and with double coils. I have exercised an astonishing amount of self discipline lately and NOT bought anything I don’t need, but the heart wants what the heart wants.BoringPostcards wrote: ↑Sat Feb 24, 2024 9:15 amThis is the right advice. I was on the hunt for a Classic at the time. I love those so much. I had a sale arranged at a bar. Went to the bar twenty minutes late, due to traffic and the dude says “I sold it, got to be quick.”Chippertheripper wrote: ↑Sat Feb 24, 2024 9:21 amI have a classic, which I adore, but I want one that’s equally resonant and with double coils. Anyhow, long story short, I went and tried a few at the local big box and ordered myself a 2013 Standard in natural burst.
Only thing I didn’t like, but got used to is the 60s slim taper neck. I like it now, but really didn’t at first. Now I find chunky necks uncomfortable. Go figure.

It's hard to imagine a more dichotomous tandem of one crystalline, clean, crisp fender with its snappy 25.5" scale, and one unctuous, warm, velvet slick 24.75" Gibson. Just pick something real cool. LP Custom, ES-345, SG w/ Vibrola, Explorer.
Nothing like watching a band and being a nerdy fan and seeing the guitarist switch guitars and thinking "oh shit, this is gonna be a ________ kind of song."
"...So-and-so famous for their Jazzmaster into Vox sound, except on those occasions where they'd bust out an all black LP Custom..."
Just say'n is all.
Hahah....truth here.
