That’s a good point, and interesting!

I wonder whether that decision becomes feasible economically due to the fact that they only make a handful of tube types

3 different varietals of 12AX7 is still way easier, perhaps, than literally hundreds if not thousands of different, highly-application-specific tubes as we’d have seen mid-20th century

Some of the engineers over in the tech forum at the Gear Page (smart folks that I trust) have noted that the Sovetek 5881's (really 6P3S-E's) have done well in Fender amps for many years, despite the lower published dissipation ratings and lower published plate voltage. One noted that they cannot be used in Jim Kelly amps, FWIW.

Probably depends on which Fender amp, I imagine. A '59RI Bassman would probably love them. The Twin Reverb in the OP... It may be borderline and not for very long.

I miss the old SED/pre-NewSensor Svetlana 6L6GC... That tube was amazeballs in my '66 Dual Showman head (which I also miss...).
