Here's my 1979 Guild D25. It had a pickguard crack and the OG guard was curling up pretty bad. So, time to pull it up and replace it after gluing and cleating the crack...except. Whatever glue guild were using tore up the spruce top pretty bad. I heated things up as much as I was comfortable and did my best to work in line with the grain, but almost half the thickness was lost in places.
bummer.
So, I sealed it with shellac, made an ok color match (it was better before the top coat), then evened out the topography with CA.
The OG guard was very dark tort, almost black, and it's pretty large, so supplies are a little tough. I made up this one, but I think it's a little corny. I have another one on the way that should be darker.
If it wasn't for disappointment, I wouldn't have any appointments.
