Did I mention? I wrecked my Tremolux!

Post by zhivago » Tue Dec 19, 2006 3:27 am

happened a few weeks ago....I was playing it at rehearsal...volume was on about 5....one of the speaker clip thingies came off...I didn't realise...then the volume went.

I looked in the back and the6L6s were blue....so I got some new JJs...stuck them in the other day, switched on the amp, the glowed ok, but still no sound.

I stupidly haven't checked the power tubes...could they have gone as well?

is it possible I fried something?

the fuse is ok, so that can't be it....

any suggestions?

I was gonna drop the amp off to my tech, but I just landed this 8 page report to design, so I'm stuck indoors for the week!

If you ran it for any length of time with no speaker load, you may have fried the output transformer.  They no likey when they don't see any ohms.

Ouch! Fingers crossed for you on this that it's something small...

it was probably running like that for a few mins...who knows...if it's gonna be expensive, then I'll probably leave it broken for a while.

actually, it's cost LOADS of money in retrospect....buying the amp, paying for the duty, the step down transformer, the combo cab (and import tax on that too) plus the two Jensens.

it's all roundabout £900....I mean, the amp sounds AMAZING...but jesus...I can't spend more money on it at the moment....especially if the repair bill's gonna be in the hundreds.

aw man, that's a complete nightmare. I hope there's no serious damage.

yeah...totally sucks...we got a gig in 12 days too!

*sigh*

been looking at the prices of output transformers online....they seem to go for about $50...which I suppose in England will be £60  >:(

if that's the case, adding the guy's labour, I'm looking at about £150 at least.  :(

I have no knowledge of these things, but if this is the part blown it might not be that nightmarish. The labour costs are a diffrent thing though.

I just got this project to do, so I can't drop off the amp till saturday....so I might not have an amp for the NYE gig....hrmmm....

thank Justin...let's hope that the guy wil be able to fix the amp on time for the gig...otherwise I'll have to either rent a 1x12 and use my MMBA head...or...god forbid, use a POD modeler direct into the desk!

that's cool.. I always liked him and never had a problem when dealing with him, he seems to have the right idea but I guess his execution is occasionally another matter

you should go pay him a visit.. £70 could go a long ways in repairing that amp  ;)

Bingo.  This is not good.

Sorry, Zhivago.  It's gonna set you back a bit.
