'81 blackface Super Reverb

Post by Ladykiller » Fri Jun 20, 2008 9:57 am

I see on Craigslist an '81 "Riviera Designed" Super Reverb that looks to be a blackface for $600. I'm definitely no Fender amp connoiseur, and can't really make heads or tails of it. What do you guys think? If it's a good deal, I might grab it as I'm in the market.

i haven't played those models, but this doesn't blow me away as a great deal. probably a fair one, though. fenders from that era never wowed me. for the same cash you could probably get an early 70's SF twin if you do a bit of hunting.

in general, i find that ebay searches of "completed listings" is the best way to measure market value of gear. might be worth a shot, although these are somewhat rare, i guess.

I don't think Rivera did any of the super reverbs.  He did design (on some level) the II series, super champs, and concerts, though.  Any point-to-point fender is starting to be worth $600, it seems.  It might be the last of the SF ones with a switched faceplate.

If it's one of the Super 60/Super 112 etc amps, that's waaaay too much.

I have a rivera-era concert 4x10 and it is really very good.  Heavy, with a useless distortion channel, but good.

It's a 4x10, there wasn't much information included. Considering I'd have to drive 3 hours to even try it out, and with what you've said above, maybe it's a pass. Thank you for the info.
