cab makers?

Post by Taylorplayer » Thu Jul 03, 2008 1:32 pm

hey everybody ... just wondering if any of you can recomend a good cabinet builder. over the next year or so I'll be hopefully finishing my amp projects and I'll need cabinets for a showman, a tremolux and bandmaster heads with a few cabinets to round them out.

So hoping to find someone the dovetails etc and makes the cabs vintage correct, but top quality :)

Not to speak for him, but I know zhiv had a nice little cab done for his TLux by Newell. If you search around the amp section you'll find a thread or two on it.

indeed, I have bought two cabs from JD Newell, one was for my old Tremolux, and one for my current tweed deluxe.

both are extremely well made, had reasonable shipping charges, and were created in a reasonable amount of time.

I would not hesitate to buy from him again.

shoot him an email, he's a great guy, very nice on email :)

You might check out Avatar speakers as well, they sell empty and loaded cabinets that match most colors and designs of popluar amps.  I know they are listed on ebay, as well.
They have most 12" speaker configs as well as some 10" sizes.  No head cabs though...

His telephone area code is in Texas (near Houston) so that's probably where he is.

I have an Avatar cab w/ a Celestion Blue in it and I totally dig it. Great product for the price and the owner is extremely helpful when you call.

I realize this thread is getting a little old, but I thought I'd pass along another suggestion for anyone in the market ofr a custom cabinet.  I recently had one made by a guy named "Crusty" who does business with Weber Speakers.  There is a link for him on the weber site, here's a link too: https://taweber.powweb.com/store/wccabs.htm.  His email is: Crustycabs@gmail.com  His actual name is Steve.

I had him make me a combo. cabinet for my '67 Bandmaster that I was sick of lugging around as a separate head/speaker cab.  It took maybe six weeks to have it made, but it was very well done and fit like a glove.  I was very impressed.  He was also very good about promptly answering any questions I had over email.
