hey guys...as you've all probably seen in the other thread, I can't use my friend's 10" speakers, so I need to buy some new Jensens
so...the amp's a '65 Tremolux...
which Jensens do I need?
Ceramic, Alnico?
maybe Webers instead of Jensens? (will have to mail order those from the States)
if you could also provide links, that would be great, as I know absolutely nothing about guitar speakers.
I want them to be quite efficient though, I'd like breakup on the amp later in the dial, and not on "3")

Re: Which Jensen speaker?
I prefer Alnico, though I'm a sucker for Greenbacks in Vox/Marshall type amps. I'd personally go with Alnico, ceramic will stay clean a bit longer but Alnico sounds better (chimey/warm/more lively) to my ears and have more mid range which tends to cuts through better.

from what I read these sound like good choices..
10A150
$155.00
For mid 60's amps using AlNiCo 10's where big low end and tons of midrange punch is desired.
10", 40oz AlNiCo magnet, 25 or 50 watt, 1-1/2" voice coil, ribbed cone.
Warm, loud, later/smooth breakup, aggressive, compressed/fattened at high volume.
10A150P
$155.00
Interesting mix of American and British tone. Our standard 10A150 frame with our Blue Pup cone.
10", 40oz AlNiCo magnet, 25 or 50 watt, 1-1/2" voice coil, Blue Pup cone.
Chimey bright, very detailed. Definitely for amps that need brightened up. Lots of low end thanks to the large magnet.
Articulate, big bottom, aggressive, loud, compressed at high volume.

I don't know much about speakers, but this shop may save you on the shipping costs:

Re: Which Jensen speaker?
First off, Congrats on having a sweet amp, zhivago.
Jenson C10R's or P10R's get my vote.
C10R's: Ceramic speaker at about 35 dollars U.S. These are great speakers for the price, and they are the closest to what your amp origionally came with (either Oxford 10K5 or CTS 10" ceramic according to ampwares). I think on a budget this would be the best bet. For that price you should be very happy with this speaker.
P10R's: the Alnico version is about $50's U.S. each. And it's a really sweet Upgrade, your just lookin at more money.
Personally I would prefer the P10R but my wallet tells that I'm gettin the C10R... actually it tells that I can't get either.

You probably already know this, but this is the fender amp field guide and I love it.

Why should we buy postage stamps? We can make our own.

Re: Which Jensen speaker?
Honestly, I'm super happy with the $40 Weber Signature series speakers I bought for my 2x10 combo. I got 1 alnico and one ceramic and the combination is real nice. I'm amazed at how clear and tight the bottom is in this little 2x10 cab. Highs are nice as well, especailly with my JM's. For the price, they're really hard to beat. Just stay away from his copper cap rectifier replacements. They blow up rather easily apparantly.

I'm using a Weber Signature 12 ceramic in my Ampeg Reverberocket II. Sounds great. We'll see how it holds up to loud playing though.
