okay, I ALMOST bought a Jaguar HH 3 times this week!
A local store has the Jaguar HH in stock and I have almost went and bought it 3 times this week. I keep talking myself out of it. I have pretty much decided to get a new AVRI Jag in surf green (a dream guitar for me for quite some time). This seems like a dumb idea since I already have a vintage 66 Jag, but I really want to save wear and tear on the 66. I do like the idea of a 600 dollar HH, since I wouldn't feel the need to baby it quite so much. What is the point of this? Well, here are the reasons I kept my wallet closed this week:
1. The HH is a wonderfully made instrument, but I am sure I would want to change the pickguard to tortoise and put Jag single coils in it. This would add quite a bit to a guitar I think may be priced a bit high as it is.
2. color, color, color! It looks better in person than in the catalogs, but it is just too slick or hard rock looking for me. This may have been Fender's plan - to make a rock jag - but I think the real Jag does rock better than people give it credit for. If this guitar was available in Sonic blue, surf green, ocean turq, or lake placid......... any of these colors.............I would be posting pics right now instead of typing my rantings.
3. The all black color scheme screams goth at me a little too much and the black pickguard is not even visible from a distance which kind of makes the chrome control panels look like they are just floating in space - not connected to anything. Maybe it is just me.
Since I have a real jag, I don't mind the stop tail, it would be a different thing for me. In fact, I think Fender is trying to introduce new players to the Jag family and this may be a good gateway drug for them. I am not ruling out picking one up in the future even after I get a surf green AV. It would be nice to have one that I could throw in my car on cold nights and wouldn't care so much about the temp. changes that it would be exposed to as well as possible theft.
Lastly, another reason I didn't buy one is that I have a HUGE hunch that these things are right on the verge of a $399.00 discontinued item clearance. Anyone else think this? I am going to keep a close eye on musician's friend for that reason.

Dude, you have just said everything I have been thinking! There is a local music store that has had one on the shelf for 6 months, and I am waiting for them to clearance that baby out!! I was thinking of buying one, too. I just looked at it and admitted to myself that there was too much I wanted to change (rather have single coils, rather have tort guard), which would make it as expensive as a CIJ from Ishi.... I don't know...I'm looking at Teles too..
It's a never ending battle with my guitar addiction!

Re: okay, I ALMOST bought a Jaguar HH 3 times this week!
We have our regular jags, whether they are vintage, AVRI or CIJ, most of us have that. The Jag HH is a different instrument - it has two humbuckers. I played one and want one myself.
I would no more want to change it into a standard Jag than I would put humbuckers in my vintage 66. I am probably going to get a Jag HH and leave it as it is, and play it and enjoy it as a separate instrument.
As it stands it is a great sounding guitar but it is not a standard jag, any more than a telecaster deluxe or custom (with the humbuckers) is a standard tele.
Why not get one and just see what kind of sounds you can get out of it as it is?
In about two weeks I think I will order one from American Music Supply.
Now you guys have me wanting it again... I am getting weaker and weaker.
Let's face it we are addicted. We should call this offsets anonymous.
Except we continue to feed and reinforce our wonderful addictions.
I say go for it.
I am.

I love the Jagg HH! I've never played one, but I think they're cool lookin' and saw a guy playing one at a show once, and it sounded awesome. I especially love the baritone version.

You know what that calls for, dont you?I love the Jagg HH! I've never played one, but I think they're cool lookin' and saw a guy playing one at a show once, and it sounded awesome. I especially love the baritone version.
We need a Jag HH right away.
I gave my son a Jag HH baritone for Christmas and he loves it.
Those two guitars are very very different and cool.
I need one - you need one, we all need one to compliment our other Jags.

Re: okay, I ALMOST bought a Jaguar HH 3 times this week!
stereordinary, I see you have lots of JMs and no Jags. Here is your chance to have a Jag with humbuckers, which you could replace with soapbars or JM pickups if you wanted to or didnt care for the Jag HH pickups. But I don't have an "other Jags."
If you have no other jags and are sad, then why not start out with a Jag HH? It is reasonably priced and beautiful
Plus I bet they don't make them too long and eventually eveyone will want one, and you will have one.
Who knows, if you really want the single coil Jag sound, you can buy a pickguard equipped with Jag circuits and pickups, any color you desire, and slap it on when you want.
See how easy it is to convince ourselves to buy more and more offset guitars?

I still may end up getting one. The money I would save by talking myself out of a AV Jag could certainly be put to good use. Jag bass maybe?!! I am just a bit afraid to make the step right now. I really REALLY think this has Fender Blowout written all over it.. I am betting $399. I will be all over the HH if it happens!

Gutter rock, I am going to buy one in two short days!
I can't wait.
I am afraid they won't make these long.
And I played one about 3 months ago and loved it.
It is probably the sexiest looking guitar I ever saw, and I must have this black cat.
Your post convinced me.
I must have it.
And play it.
Oh the anticipation!
Oh the delight!
I love getting a new guitar I have wanted for a long time, don't you?
There are very few pleasures in life that last a lifetime.
You can eat a fine meal and it is gone in a day.
You can drive a nice car and in 6-10 years it becomes a junk. (Except for my 1946 Dodge)
You can have great sex and it lasts 10 minutes and it is only a memory.
But an electric guitar lasts your whole life.
You can keep it forever and hand it down to your kids.
Every time you pick it up you develop your skill and are no longer the same person you were before.
How many pleasures of life are like that?
So permanent.
For the money, if you average it over you life time it is pennies a day,
yet it gives you treasure every day.
Cheers and may there be many guitars in your lifetime.
Ed

Re: okay, I ALMOST bought a Jaguar HH 3 times this week!
Congrats 1946dodge!!! I tell you I keep getting closer and closer to losing willpower myself. I have the cash to buy the one in my local store, but this cash is supposed to be going towards a new Jaguar (AV, Surf Green). I am only about $4-500 away from getting it. The HH would mean not getting an AV at all or waiting a very long time. I am selling all my rarely used gear on Ebay to raise funds as it is. Good grief, I am obsessed.1946dodge wrote: Gutter rock, I am going to buy one in two short days!

I agree on guitars! My bandmate and I are always talking over our latest gear obsessions, we sometimes comment on how ridiculous we are to have this addiction. However, this addiction is much cheaper than cocaine!!! I would assume more satisfying as well.
I have a son and another son coming in 3 months! So, without a doubt I plan on handing down some real nice jags someday! Give us a report when you get it. I am real interested in whether a pickup change will be needed. Congrats again !!!

At my age, I assure you it is only wishful thinking. I am lucky to even get up at bat once in a blue moon.Wow - how do you make it last 10 minutes?
I used 10 minutes for you young guys so you could relate to it.
Why do you think I want so many guitars?

haha! my longest relashioship with a girl was 5 years. I have had my jazzmaster for nearly 15! I'd have to say I agree owning a great guitar lasts a lifetime.
