for my second '61, which will be my main gigging Jazzmaster, I'm using new pots and stuf, so I'm determined to learn how to solder this time!!

In all honesty I reckon its the technical issues (which wire goes where) that'd be the hardest to learn. We did soldering back in high school & it was a piece of piss.

You think you can't, you wish you could, I know you can, I wish you would. Slip inside this house as you pass by.

not to steal you thread at all, but how would you compare the tremolux to a deluxe? Same thing, innit? I've never played a blackface one...

No, not the same thing, even if you discount the Tremolux being a head and not having reverb.
The Deluxe is 2x 6V6 valves in the power stage (for about 22W?) with an 8Ω out for driving a single speaker, whereas the Tremolux is 2x 6L6 valves (for about 35W) with a 4Ω out for driving two speakers. The Tremolux is a much closer spec to the Vibrolux (and also the blackface Bandmaster, Pro and Super).

Re: My 1965 Tremolux is healthy again!!
Oh, yeah baby...Once I had my '64 tremolux overhauled it just roared....I liked it before, but liked it way more after.
I build a replica tremolux cab for it and put in two RI Jensen 12"...Hmmm the sound....superb.....
I also hook up my 1x15" Showman cab (on the external speaker jack) with the 2x12" and then it's just amazing what a +40 year old 35watts amp can do to you and your Jazzmaster....
I'm not really a vintage guitar buff (don't have any vintage Fender in the house) but my Fender amps are all older then me....
But you need to have them serviced from time to time....OT and PT are useally fine (as longas there is no rust involved)
but all the caps (yes, even the higly praised blue caps can drift badly makeing the amp sound awfull...and very important, have the big caps replaced about every 7 to 10 years or so...
350 and 500V cabs. If these short out, so might even you as taking 500V is lethal.....(I almost expirienced it once and it's not a laugh) that is what happens if you keep playing an amp with it's original power cabs.....

I 100% agree...with good maintenance, these amps will outlive all of us!
actually, thinking about the vintage thing...my amp and my Jazzmaster have a combined age of 88 years!!!
