I just ordered the Allparts bound/dot $trat neck.
This should almost GUARANTEE that a proper vintage will show up on eBay shortly...

How does the headstock look on that one? Will you have to remodel it?fullerplast wrote: I just ordered the Allparts bound/dot $trat neck.

as far as I know, it is pre-CBS Strat-sized...so to get the proper shape, you need to add wood...

I know.
I'm not going to bother adding wood though. This will be better than the maple neck on it now, at least until a vintage neck comes along (L@@K!)....

Oh, ok.. I just couldn't figure how it was because of the angle of that photo. I'm surprised they don't offer that neck with the large CBS-era headstock, though.fullerplast wrote: I know.

I inquired about availability with a large head (and even a paddle head) and got their standard non-informative reply; "no, not available".
Being as the Strat was never bound, it seems they could sell alot more of these with a JM head... or at least a big Strat head. It's been this way for years and they refuse to address it.

I think so... but at twice the price.
My goal is to find an original neck. So this one is pretty much a stopgap measure until then.
If the original was a LONG way off... the Warmoth would probably have been a better choice. But it's hard to tell. I'm hoping it's right around the corner...

yes, but their "vintage modern" CBS necks have the truss rod adjustment at the headstock, and the "pro" have it at the side of the heel, plus they have 22 frets and don't come with vintage radius. and the "total vintage" necks don't come with CBS headstocks.sexy andy wrote: Doesn't warmoth do bindings with CBS headstocks?

Re: "PROJECT '65" Update! Pics!
i really don't see why they have these limitations. i mean, they have all the templates, why not offer every possible combination of headstock shape/profile/radius/number of frets etc. ?

Re: "PROJECT '65" Update! Pics!
Because, it seems, today's players don't care about accuracy. It pisses me off!! That's why it's like pulling teeth to get a 7.25" radius on a new Fender...Unless it's an AVRI instrument. Otherwise, it's 9.5 and up. It would seem to me that fact would create a market for licensed "vintage" style necks... I guess it shows I know nothing! :-\mynameisjonas wrote: i really don't see why they have these limitations. i mean, they have all the templates, why not offer every possible combination of headstock shape/profile/radius/number of frets etc. ?
