When I play guitar it's ok. But, when I play bass or bassvi, it gets this click, click sound. It seems to be mostly on the low notes. I tried taking the head off the cab ( the cab is ok, a ported bass 1x10) no luck. This only happens with the lower register instruments. I did do some mods, standby, high gain, bright switch. Would bad solder joints be a possibility? I really don't want to take it in, it's such a low priced thing right now, taking it in might double the amps cost from my pocket.
Any ideas? Thanks, Dave.

Maybe a cold solder joint? Try reflowing all the solder joints where you modded it.
Why should we buy postage stamps? We can make our own.

??sure the speakers not flapping due to the low Hz? Or the gain of the pickups/ low hz of the bass isnt just distorting the input?

no, it's a tuned and ported cab with an eminence basslite speaker. the cab can handle it nicely, i'm sure. it's something else.eggwheat wrote: ??sure the speakers not flapping due to the low Hz? Or the gain of the pickups/ low hz of the bass isnt just distorting the input?

Re: What's wrong with my Valve Jr.?
I decided to fix whatever the problem may be, even if taking it to a shop was necessary. When I did the mods I also changed the tubes to new JJ's. But, I made a rare good decision first. I changed out the preamp tube first, and viola! I can't believe it! The problem was the preamp tube. I put in a vintage Magnavox I had sitting around from when I swapped out all of my SVT pre tubes. So, there it is. Sounds great. I just hope that the tube in the pre doesn't get damaged after a while, maybe that's what happened to the JJ? Fingers crossed, I don't know.
