I'm pretty set. I have a avri jag that is pure joy for me.

But I really do want a backup 24'' guitar for when I need to have work done on mine. The original plan was to get a blacktop or a Jagmaster and paint it fiesta red (I shit you not) and then rout it for Jazzmaster pickups.

Well, that little jag number would save me the trouble of refinishing at the very least.

Id like to experience that bridge first hand though. Like most of you, I don't see why they couldn't do a proper jag/jazzy bridge. Haven't they learned that this is a key aspect of these guitars?

Still though, I won't miss it so much, as it'll be my backup and nothing more.

Yeah, it sounds and looks much like an intonatable Danelectro bridge. Makes me think you might be able to make a pretty damn cool electric sitar out of one with one of these Gotoh replacement bridges for Danos. Works great on my Dano.

I really like the Dano bridge, on my Dano. I don't have much of an opinion on it, either way, for these guitars...

Glad to see vintage-style tuners on the JM.

While I appreciate the options, these are a huge miss IMO. They're missing the things that make offsets unique. I bet the "Jazzmaster" will have P90's, not JM pickups. Also, why does Fender put humbuckers in every Jag they make, except for the AVRI and MIJ stuff?

Because they assume that anyone who buys a Jag is gonna be into Teh Kurdtz.

Man, I was begging for these in the mid-80s. Then again, had they made then, I probably never would have got into the old ones.

But that strat jack is a rather epic visual fail.

I guess there aren't too many Dave Gonzalez fans on the forum...nobody noticed the similarity to this guitar?

It's a baritone the Fender custom shop built for him over a year ago with an old Fender VI neck he supplied - and it has the same concentric controls, Dano bridge, and strat jack. I wonder what the story is.

The jack location seems more balanced on his, though. A bit more to the back, not looking like it's going to collide with the guard.

I like them!!! Ok, the strat jack "might" not be a great looker...but I find it an ergonimic solution, since most of use use straight jacks.
On the other hand, imagine these Squier's with a "deluxe" guard that has the strat jack incorperated....
I think that would look great....also since it has a hardtail bridge, the" butt" would look less empty with a larger "deluxe" alike pickguard.

Anyway, once these gems hit old europe, I'll def gonna give them a go....
Man...the possibilities with those are endless.....I can see a bibsby on those....Or modded to some kind of Telemaster spec without the tele contol plate.
Indeed Jazz and JagBlasters for cheap....Also those basses look quiete promising....

And since they are Squiers, they probably hold their value somewhat more then all the other knockoff's, which I think is also not bad...
+ these can be scrounged for parts....used for whatever you feel like....just my two cents, ofcourse ;)
And, finally we get a JagMaster alike guitar that can be Jm/JAg tremed with a lot of ease, no filling of existing strat trem routes....
I doubt, these would even need a refin to get them with a Floating trem.... so all good in my book!
Come on...lets face....for us offsetters, this can't be much better...right??? (at least they are not throwing us to death with loads and loads of strat and tele variations, yet again, ok....they do...but these Squiere offsets are a great start!!!! pronto!!!)

I kinda like the color of the JM, and can deal with the strat jack and maple neck. I even think the concentric control pots are pretty cool. But no trem? Why bother? I really don't see any reason not to spend the extra $150 for a Blacktop, unless you absolutely have to have a JM bridge pickup or are afraid of the trem. Even then, spend $40 on a GFS Surf 90 and you're back in the game. Whenever I hear people whine about the JM trem/bridge I want to tell them to grow a pair, or just shut up and play a Tele. If money's tight, I'd go with a Xaviere- take the $80 you save over the Squier and upgrade the hardware/electronics as needed.

Also, I'd love to see a "budget" JM routed HH (something like the HH SX SJM, but less gumby looking) since there is such a wide array of pickup replacement choices available. As it is, I'm GASing pretty hard for a Blacktop JM with some flavor of HB sized P90 in the bridge- that'd be tits.

I wonder if the bodies will be thick enough to route for a standard JM/jag trem... I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to reduce the thickness to save money, weight, etc.

They are humbuckers aren't they, I thought so, but than I stopped seeing the black half and decided they must be strat pickups :squint:
