What ever you think,i don't care but maybe you should lighten up cause theres hundreds of individual opinions expressed here and we all don't agree on everything, its impossible to do so.mcjt wrote: so, they're shit because they are not identical to the original design of the ... 1950's?
-- because they are advertised as Klusons but are not? they own the name- you're saying they shouldn't use the name in advertising that they legally own ?
-- because you can see imperfections in the metal finish which leads you to be believe they are cast?
-- and IF they are cast, the metal finish won't bond as well and flake off with time?
-- because they have a different bushing? (a locking bushing, which would probably be a better mechanical coupling then a push-in bushing)
-- because they might need a slightly enlarged keyhole in the headstock?
well, no, they're not vintage. it's a different design- it would not sound identical to a kluson from the 50's. WD bought the kluson name years ago. Then Tonepros bought the Kluson name more recently. They could make a shit version of a tuner from the 50's if they want to. they can sell this shit version of the tuner for more than the gotoh's of today. but.. why? why would they make a shit tuner and make fantastic everything else which, for example, is now STOCK on gibson SG and Les Paul?
they say on their website that they do new versions of classic designs. for example, it's a completely sealed machine head, which i think might be better. the tuner is obviously not vintage-correct. they are not trying to fool anyone.
it comes to preference. if you want a vintage sound and look, get a gotoh. but you'll have to sadly pass on the Kluson name.
if you want the Kluson name, you'll have to make a compromise as the new Kluson tuner is 'modified' and 'vintage-inspired'. it might have lousy cast metal housing, but it might actually be a better tuner too.
I'm pretty sure they still make the stamped style Klusons... the Tonepros version are just vintage style modern tuners... as advertisedmcjt wrote: so, they're shit because they are not identical to the original design of the ... 1950's?

Hey Guys, fullerplast wrote:They still sell the full line of Ping-made Klusons in the green box, leading me to believe that they are still making them. My opinion is that they probably received so many requests for an upgrade, that they brought one out in the Tone Pros line. It's an odd thing to do... but plausible. It fulfills a request for a sealed modern tuner with the look and tie to Kluson.
Well, see here's the deal... licensing IS the gold. I work for a record label and we make good money from licensing songs... There's no production over-head on licensing out a name... only profit.fullerplast wrote:It's strange to me that they would license out the Kluson name to another company. I would think it would be like gold. Well, it WOULD have been like GOLD if they had applied it to a good product. Too bad they didn't license it to Gotoh to put on the vintage-style tuners. I'm sure there are plenty of restrictions on how Gotoh can use the name.
totally...and I still have a hangover from last night...we partied pretty hard after the gig!Jets wrote: it's too damn hot to sleep tonight.
