Argh, not sure how I feel about these. Although a fiesta red 24" affordable mod-able Fender type thing is looking very appealing to me lately...

I bought my Fiesta Red Jaguar today. Very pleased.
I will wait until next winter to modify. It will be Esquired (tele bridge and pickup, no neck pickup, new pickguard).

Re: here comes the Squier offsets.....
I measured my Danelectro bridge. The holes are about 1mm further apart than a TOM bridge. TOM bridge's tend to have the same spacing as a Jag/jazz/mustang bridge.
So, unfortunately if you want to replace the bridge on these you will need to plug and redrill the holes.

A Jagsquire's pretty crazy. Even more if you call it a "Esquar".
But also pretty AWESOME.

"Esquar" sounds like a Brooklynite trying to impersonate a Cockney.valley_parade wrote:A Jagsquire's pretty crazy. Even more if you call it a "Esquar".

lastlol wrote:That is more and more a thing of the past, at least concerning Squiers. I recently bought a Classic Vibe Thinline Tele, and was offered a Vintage modified Precision Bass. None of them has exposed frets, both necks are perfectly finished. Even the soldering of the electronics is very clean, and they use full size Alpha pots. I bought an Allparts one piece maple Tele neck for another project, it is made in Japan, apparently in the Fender factory and I had to file all the fret ends, not to mention that the lacquer was sprayed over the frets and not removed.Extremely frustrating to see Fender/Squier bust out the maple on an extreme budget model. And thusly, extremely skeptical of the Squier neck. Buying a MIM or Squier neck nowadays is often a huge roll of the dice. How many crummy exposed frets will there be that need filed down?
If there was Classic Vibe Jazzmasters and Jaguars... I wouldn't think twice before buying one. Squier will soon make MIM Fender obsolete.
I have had my Squier VM Jazzmaster a month. It feels and looks more like a CV Squier, finish is quite similar and Duncan Designed pups sound good.
My VM Telecaster Custom II P90 is good too, but has a little different finish style.

I own 6 Squiers currently, CVs and VMs mostly. Strange, those have not had any issues, fret ends are smooth, nothing is loose in both hardware or electronics. Where did i go wrong?

Reminder: i have own/own now about 10 USA guitars, Fenders and Gibsons mostly. Of course they are the best, but i see no reason to avoid good examples of Squiers, Epiphones or other Asian products. They are improving all the time.

Re: here comes the Squier offsets.....
I asked in the mod forum: not pleased with the controls and am looking on advice on how to make a master volume and tone control rather than the concentric, tone-sucking stock controls. Anyone? BTW I love it with the knobs full on, just want to be able to roll off volume, that's my playing style. Thanks in advance!

Re: here comes the Squier offsets.....
I'm also pretty down on the control scheme. I just picked up the same model last night (sunburst / white) totally lovely guitar and I adore it on full. Did you find the volume basically went from 100% to 20% with the slightest rotation?
My plan is to rewire with master volume, and blend, and turn the top area into a kill switch, for that odd day I decide to play death metal (It will never come).

Re: here comes the Squier offsets.....
Yes. All or very little. I just want simple master vol and tone. Maybe some Fender amp knobs.....I do want all the tone when rolling back, and wonder what the best pot value would be for that. Not too ice-picky full on, 300k maybe?

Re: here comes the Squier offsets.....
richey88: I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "all the tone" when rolling back. If you mean the treble that you lose when turning down the volume knob, try looking up "treble bleed" circuits. They use a capacitor across the legs of the volume pot to preserve the upper treble frequencies as you turn the pot down. Here's a basic example from the Seymour Duncan wiring diagrams pages:
http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wi ... eble_bleed
For a general circuit, if you just wanted 2 pickups, 3way, vol, tone...this should be right:

knpknpknp: For the blend, I'm not sure if you were looking for advice also... My experience with blend knobs has been great on basses, but on guitars they can darken the circuit just a little. Remember, they are 2 pots linked together so you have 2 paths to ground for treble loss. To offset that, you may want to go with a brighter volume pot value. I'm not sure what the stock volume pots are, but I'd probably start with a 500k volume and go up to 1meg if necessary. Treble bleed might be useful as well on the volume if it sounds like it needs it. I think the highest value of blend pot I've ever seen was a 500k/500k, so there's not a lot of wiggle room there. Here's the blend knob circuit from a jazz bass if you need it.

If one of you has the guitar open, can you post a picture of the wiring/pots they use stock? I'm curious to see if they're linear/log, what values, etc. after you described that rapid roll-off.
