Orange Amps? Who use em here?
I was just wondering who here uses them. I myself am looking to buy an Ad30 stack. And was wondering if anyone else had that particular amp or another style orange amp.

I don't have one but I think the original single chanel AD30 head sounds way better than the new 2-channel version. If you find one for $800, grab it quick because I think they're gonna be desired one day.

Re: Orange Amps? Who use em here?
I don't have one myself, but can personally vouch to their quality and sound. My former band and I played an outdoor gig up in NH last summer with a fantastic (and sadly departed) band called the Federalists. Their guitarist's parents are loaded, so needless to say he got a Rockerverb 50 Head and 2x12 Cab for his birthday that year. Fantastic sound quality, even in the horrible acoustics of the great outdoors he still managed to have fantastic tone. From a jangly full clean to a lovely throaty lead boost. Totally great. I was really jealous needless to say
I'd definetly give 'em a try. They have a great pedigree and are supposed to be pretty kill-proof.

I was inspired to buy an old Orange OR80 after hearing my bandmates. The AD140 he had was awesome, but this was even better. Really great amps all around.

I once played an OD120 through a Vintage Orange 4x12 Cab (with powersoak), damn it was still loud it hurt. The tone was absolutely wonderful. Nothing is better than a cranked 100W nonMV top
The recent AD and rockerverb/thunderverb series sounds different, but also nice. The tiny terror might be a bit too thin sounding if you plan to use something like a standard JM bridge sound.

I've been using them for several years now. Right now I have a '76 Overdrive 120 that has been my main amp for a couple years now. At one point I also had an AD30HTC. It sounded good, but the valve rectifier softened things up too much for my taste. The extra headroom of the 120s really help low notes ring out without being too mushy. Also, the FAC control on the old ones is a thing of beauty IMO. I never even use the treble and bass controls because it works so well.

I have an ad30htc, and newsflash, the first channel of the two channel version is the same as the single channel of the single channel version. I've also played them side by side before. No difference. I absolutely love mine, and of all the amps I've gone through, it's the only one that's stayed. Sold off an ac30, a super reverb, and a twin reverb. though I wouldn't mind having another ac30 and super again someday.

I had an OR120 for a couple of years. Great amp. Not as loud as I expected, but still plenty loud. I would still have it if I hadn't found my current amp, a vintage Ampeg V-4. I wouldn't discourage anyone from an Orange.

Re: Orange Amps? Who use em here?
Gotta say I disagree.... Unless I played a 'bad' 2-channel AD30. It Slightly reminded me of a Peavey Classic 50, not a bad amp but there's a something in the upper mids& treble range that bugs me. The single channel AD30 that a friend owns sounds great, more Vox-like with a treble that stays more musical even when dimed. Both amps were played thru the matching 2x12 cabs with V30's. That's my experience anyway...williamh wrote: I have an ad30htc, and newsflash, the first channel of the two channel version is the same as the single channel of the single channel version. The twin-channels are very similar to the single channel model.
I've A/B'ed them and set to the same controls they're pretty much the same.
Saying that I don't need two channels and I'd really like to pick up the single channel AD30 head.

Re: Orange Amps? Who use em here?
the other guitar player in my band has an ad30htc, and that little thing roars. I had a Rockerverb100, that i sold right away after i got it, most overrated amp ever. Too dark and warm, i almost always never cut through, even on low gain settings, and the amp wasent even loud. The ad30htc was louder than my 100watt rockerverb, fuck that amp. The older models like the OR120 and OD120 are what really rock the house.
