Tell Tony Aaron from SLM says to pull out the stops and make us a better deal!mongoose wrote:OK folks. Sorry for taking so long to post today, jut got home from a VERY long work day.
I got a stack of PM's about this, so I'll just answer everybody here.
Litz is willing to do $300 + $20 shipping each for these Mascis' , IF we order at least 6 and all to the same address.
What's the verdict?

Re: New j. Mascis 2011???
I contacted a few music stores in Ireland and they expect to have the guitar in stock in early November. Retail price will be 440 approx but they would rather wait till it comes available to give their best price, I am sure they will also be competing with the online european stores.
I will try and buy in Ireland to support the local store as we are going through one hell of a tough economic recession and these guys jobs are on the line.
I believe in general you should try and buy from a store in your country/state/county as the guys working in the store are musicians in bands etc and they are all struggling to stay open.

when I was in college, the answer to that question would have been "because the mom-and-pop music store in my town that has the Fender dealership is owned by a hyper-christian rock-and-roll hating, church-gear-market focused neanderthals."

Man, I'd love to do that -- also saves some logistical headaches. Sadly, the guitar stores here all just carry no-name MIC guitars, entry-level PRSs, and the occasional Bullet Strat.vinyl_addict wrote: I believe in general you should try and buy from a store in your country/state/county as the guys working in the store are musicians in bands etc and they are all struggling to stay open.

I can't stand local retail... sorry. But it just forces me to buy from the big box places.

sadly this is sometimes the case - it's a rarity to have a store where the dueds running it aren't bitter old men or snobby elitists - especially in outlining areas/smaller towns.alexhollandmusic wrote:I can't stand local retail... sorry. But it just forces me to buy from the big box places.
There are cool stores, but they really aren't everywhere.

I'm just gonna wait for one of those 15% off sales from one of the free shipping and no tax stores. That way I can wait a try one in person / hear informed impressions from others.

I suspect so. The math is not very favorable unless we can deal with the double shipping issue.croatan wrote:so are we pretty much all decided that the litz deal isnt worth the hassle or what? i'm cool either way, i just need to lay the groundwork for the order on my own otherwise

Re: New j. Mascis 2011???
I would think he could cut a deal to anyone who says they are from the OSG, especially if a bunch of people committed to buying from him, plus ship them individually. Just cut us a 10% off the price deal and he'll still come out ahead if he's selling a bunch of them.
I'm pretty sure that music stores have a 30% markup from the minimum advertised price, at least on larger ticket items. It may not be that large a markup on lower price guitars like the squire though maybe. Why I'm getting in the middle of it, I don't know.
