I also vote black
But, I liked the idea of restoring the headstock and do a matching paintjob (perhaps not black, but still...)
Since the headsock is plain, it won't be that much of a job. Some nice matching maple won't be hard to find. Just an idea ofcourse, then it can be used for another Jaguar project, since you already have the neck

Great Score!
I just snagged a VERY nice '66 MM 24" neck essentially for $85.
I paid $360 but it comes with the Klusons ($125) and neck plate ($150) which will be re-sold.
With the $100 I'm getting for the 12-string Jag neck, this yields a complete vintage (though not correct) Jag for $835!!!!
I can't wait for the stuff to get here....

Re: PROJECT '64 JAG... VINTAGE UNDER 1K
Great score, Doug. But are you going to kill that original decal for the restoration?
Odd comment though:
Odd comment though:
From end to end? The guy obviously never measured it at all, right? Or did he include the headstock?Q: Hello Is it a 25 1/2" or 24" neck? Thanks musicXdream Chris
A: From end to end, measures 25 1/2". (25.5") thanks

Re: PROJECT '64 JAG... VINTAGE UNDER 1K
I think he included the headstock (?) (!).
It's a 22 fret neck, so it has to be 24".
I was the one who asked about the stamp. I wanted to make sure it was a B neck.
No, I won't kill the decal. I plan to add the JAGUAR part and the Contour Body, but leave the original logo there. Then, when I find a real Jag neck, I can scrape off the extra pieces and sell the neck unmolested. Clever, eh?
It might look a little weird up close, but I don't think it will look bad from a distance.... like when I do a collection of my numbers with the London Philharmonic at Albert Hall...

Re: PROJECT '64 JAG... VINTAGE UNDER 1K
those 66 musicmaster necks are the bomb - i recently got one to replace my warmoth maple/maple... night and day. the vintage is so awesome! it needed no adjustment either after i had bolted it onto my 66 duo sonic body.
I wouldn't personally add the extra jaguar decal part, since you're going to scrape it off down the line. why waste the money on the jag decal, and why risk messing up the MM headstock, you know? but it's your baby, so it's your call.
it's gonna be an awesome guitar, i'll bet!

Re: PROJECT '64 JAG... VINTAGE UNDER 1K
I had a chance to buy a '64 that was nicked up and great looking but was missing the word "Jaguar". I went with the other one that did say "Jaguar" and I always regretted that because it was a better guitar. But I'm just rambling.

Re: PROJECT '64 JAG... VINTAGE UNDER 1K
I already have a Jag decal and since it goes on top of the finish... there's really no way to mess it up. I can just wet it and scrape it off with my thumbnail and then polish it out (done it many times on various projects).why waste the money on the jag decal, and why risk messing up the MM headstock
No one's laughing about my numbers with the London Philharmonic? It's a Spinal Tap reference....
That fell as flat as my "Jazzmasters and Dog Butt joke the other day. I'm losing it, it I ever had it. StevenO is suddenly funnier than me.

i didn't catch the Tap joke... the dog butt one i saw and thought it was funny - "pets and offsets" really deserves it's own thread. i mean, there's a "girls and offsets" right? not that i'm saying i like to look at pets more than girls, but you know... lol
