Re: New j. Mascis 2011???
Hey thanks alot for the tips. I'll go ahead and try to file it down a bit and use that lube suff in the meantime so it stops popping out at gigs. (I play out a shit ton). But I noticed the guitar goes out of tune rather easy. I didn't notice it at the store when trying it out quite a few times and I didn't see anyone complain about the guitar going out of tune. But mine doesn't hold too well. Not too bad either. Just not too well. So I'm thinking the roller bridge much help? I think I saw someone mention that

Gotta say... the Squier J Mascis JM blows the VM line out of the water in terms of quality and feel. I have a VM and want to throw it in the trash.

I think the j mascis squier sounds and plays better than the classic player i played at a store a few years back, for almost half the price too.
Im just wondering about the tuning. anyone else have one that kind of goes out of tune easy? or maybe its because of the bridge and unadjustable height?
I dunno

What do you mean by unadjustable height?!BaronvonHeadless wrote:I think the j mascis squier sounds and plays better than the classic player i played at a store a few years back, for almost half the price too.

I thought you can't adjust the height of the saddles or the bridge on the JM squier?

You can't adjust the individual saddles because it's an adjust-o-matic, but you can adjust the bridge height with the thumb screws.BaronvonHeadless wrote:I thought you can't adjust the height of the saddles or the bridge on the JM squier?

But yeah, seems the low E string saddle is an easy fix. But how could I stop this guitar from going out of tune so easy. Does anyone elses mascis squier go out of tune easily? Not super out of tune, just doesnt sound as good after a few songs of heavy playing.
Id like to solve this problem.
Maybe just get a roller bridge?

Mine seems to go slighly sharp with some tremolo use.BaronvonHeadless wrote:Im just wondering about the tuning. anyone else have one that kind of goes out of tune easy?
I am considering getting a roller bridge for it, if that helps.
I think I've seen this one talked about elsewhere on here:

But I was wondering if this one would also fit:

Because it looks more like the original TOM on the JMJM, which I prefer the look of, personally.

Mine holds tune fairly well, even with some trem use. Example, I got crazy and used my Mascis JM in my Metal/Hardcore band last weekend - we did a 3 hour practice. I did not have to re-tune at all, the other guitarist using a Gibson SG standard had to retune several times.

So after owning mine since August (and not plugging it in much) I've discovered that the pickup toggle switch is bad in mine. Is this easy to fix, and do I need a certain model of switch to avoid drilling out the anodized guard?

i had practice yesterday as well, and for one song i was using the tremolo alot, and i found the guitar went sharp.
i think im gonna swap out the AOM for a wilkinson roller bridge.

The "Roller Bridge Chrome plated fits Les Paul" will fit. My friend put one on his SJMJM. I don't know about the Wilkinson one as I don't have any experience with it.Spiteface wrote:Mine seems to go slighly sharp with some tremolo use.BaronvonHeadless wrote:Im just wondering about the tuning. anyone else have one that kind of goes out of tune easy?

I think a few others around these parts have used the wilkinson one, and it fits OK, and apparently works well. I just prefer the other smaller one as it looks less obvious that I've modded it. Thanks for confirming this for me, sir!

Damn playa, wanna buy me a guitar or some pickups? I make really good music and gig constantly and could use a benefactor! Hahagutter rock wrote:I gotta wonder if Fender is having problems producing these quickly or if they are just not wanting to build too many of them for fear of excess inventory. These wait times have been a bit ridiculous for a mass produced Asian made guitar. I have a feeling they are selling well to JM enthusiasts that are snatching them up as soon as they come in. I wonder how they will sell after we all get ours?!!!! Geesh, on the first shipment my local store called me to tell me they had two in, I bought an AVRI Jag instead. Then, I called the same local store to see if they had one left, they didn't, and I bought a CP HH Jag instead! I think I might be the problem... I have bought two guitars while waiting for this thing to come out!
