Yeah, no doubt. However I have an Eastman mandolin and their guitars are good. The overseas Guild stuff is nice. I owned a couple of Seagull guitars and probably would have liked them a lot more if I had known how to set up an acoustic back then.

Of all the guitars you've been talking about, I like the Martin 15 series the most. It'll be a very good guitar, and being an all mahogany guitar means that even if you get yet another good job next year and treat yourself to another guitar that is much more expensive, you'll still have a lot of use for the 15 Martin.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

I’m not much of a mahogany guitar fan but we had a D-15 at our Brooklyn studio that was dug out of the trash and I’ll be damned if it isn’t fantastic

I have used it on many records

If you are able to stretch for the D15 or find a good deal on a used one I doubt you’d regret it much

Revisiting this, I'm between the Orangewood Oliver Live and the Guild D320.

Both are mahogany top with laminated sides and back, and are made in Southeast Asia. The Oliver is a smaller body and has a pickup. The guild is full sized, but doesn't have a pickup, but based on name value might have better construction.

I can't find much about the 300 series outside of paid endorsements. Does anyone have experience with these? Do they do the "poor man's D 15" thing?

I picked up a Guild OM320 at the end of last year and am still over the moon with it. It sounds wonderful, needed very little tweaking out of the box, and is an absolute joy to play. I was able to use the Guitar Center chat to get a bit of a discount on mine. I haven't played the D320 but if it's anything like my OM320 I think you'll be happy. Mine gets played every day.
