Anyone played or own an MIM classic 60s Strat?

For guitars of the straight waisted variety (or reverse offset).

I've seen one of these knocking around a local guitar shop, it does look lovely. I've always been a sucker for blue strats. When i was just starting out i'd always go into this store that had this Daphne blue strat on the wall, it was a little banged up but it was gorgeous. I'm quite suprised that i don't see too many strats around here actually. i suppose they are just a little bit to "common" for the trendy Jazz/Mustang/Jag owners around here :D

Well, I won the one I had my eye on (Sonic Blue at last!).  Supposedly it has Custom Shop '69 pickups in it, which, according to my research, are some pricey handwound pickups.  As long as it plays well, I can always swap the pickups out if I don't like them.

Aren't the six point trems more accurate... ???

Also the "Players'" models have fretboards with 12" radii, and satin finished necks.  :k :k :k :k :k :k

I'd rather buy a used regular 60's and upgrade the pickups...The only weak point, far as I can tell.

Right then - lets clear some things up; I had a CP60s and it was lovely - it's just that it broke my heart having (as my only guitar) a Fender that wasn't quite the Fender I wanted, so I sold, saved, and bought a JM. I'd have one as my second guitar in a heartbeat. The two point trem isn't vintage accurate, but is very good (although I'd rather have a JM trem anyday!), and the springs do that nice, faux-reverb thing. The 12" board wasn't an issue for me - like playing a slightly Gibsonized Fender, and variety is the spice of life. As for the neck, it's not satin finished! To me, it feels the same (finish-wise) as my AVRI. All in all, the only good MIM fender I've owned. Enjoy!

They have a BMM classic '60s MIM in a guitar shop here, and it's lovely. Haven't plugged it in, but unplugged it plays really nicely and resonates very well.

I guess I'll find out for myself in a few days.  It's not a big deal one way or the other, since my number 2 guitar gets switched out pretty regularly.  So, while it's nice to think that this one might be the one that I'll keep, if it's not I can always resell it.

Got it.  It's beautiful, but then again Sonic Blue usually is.  The satin finish on the neck is fine.  It's not sticky at all.  The 12" radius is fine, it just makes it feel more like a Gibson.  It's set up with 9s, which I will have to change.  Why the hell do people like such light strings?  I won't get a chance to plug it in until the weekend, but it resonates nicely unplugged.  I'm pretty happy so far.

Awesome!  So you got the "Player's" model?  How's the trem?  Do those come with gig bags?

And the most important question....Where are the pics?!!?!?

Yup, gig bag.  I am having trouble screwing the trem arm in.  I don't know if something's amiss, or if I'm just a Strat-tard.  I'll take a quick pic or two.

It was the latter.  I'm not a trem guy, but the trem seemed to work at least as well as the one on my offsets.  Also, the neck has a nice fat slab of rosewood.  I like this guitar.

Yep, I like it too.  :)

That's one of my favorite colors for a Strat. 8)

Yeah, I've never been a Strat guy, but I've been jonesing for a Sonic Blue Strat since ever since I got Beatles Gear.
