Just saw this today. Don't like the colour combos on the Jag (and no chrome to speak of!)

the bridges are better looking than a strat block like on teh Jagmaster. Shame they're not string-through, but I'm sure that can easily be modified (I know I would)

Like the maple neck on the JM version, quite unique. Not sure why they moved the pickup switch to the top, and the Strat jack is a bit lame, but not that bad.

I wonder what the pickups are like underneath. Maybe like a CIJ? Or maybe same as the Blacktops?

According to the Squier site, Duncan Designed. Which is what's in the neck position on the Blacktop JM, isn't it?

I wonder if the concentric pots are to be stepped like the jag basses?

dislike the jack as well.

I fully plan on buying the two color sunburst and making some grand changes. One of those will be blatantly putting a sicker on top of a plugged jack hole. Heck, one sticker on a guitar is always a nice look anyways. I will also either try and put a really quirky trem on it (re: vibrola or something cheaper) or just a wonderful harpy tail piece.

oh and some more chrome.

like this:Image

((oh yeah, Ill put a rosewood squier neck on it instead)

I just can't say it enough. I could get along with the Jags if they just didn't have humbuckers... you know they will sound like ass coughs. The Jazzy still might grow on me. I hate red guitars... but that sunburst on the jag almost looks target burst-ish doesn't it?

It would suck to have to buy replacement pickups for a brand new guitar, but it seems like guys (especially around here!) do such things all the time.

I bet if you replaced said crapola humbuckers with some decent HB-sized P-90's, you'd really have something there. It sure as hell made ALL the difference in my Vista Jagmaster.

All you need is to cut a custom pickguard, no routing or anything. Imo, the pickups aren't a problem. Strat pickups in a Jag would have been much more lame. :D
