Well, it's a 250 dollar risk. We will see.

Re: Chibsons on Temu
I think the thing that is frustrating about Chibsons is that sometimes they just have cool colors that you don't see on Epiphones (which these are probably comparable to) or even US Gibsons until you hit the Custom Shop.
I think fun colors are severely lacking in Gibson's and Epiphones regular lineups. Not saying that such is a valid reason for purchasing a Chibson, but if the counterfeiters can do fun things why can't the real deal?

Re: Chibsons on Temu
Did you order a complete guitar?
If I was considering temu I would just go for one without any hardware/pickups.

Of course you should save up and get something genuine.budda12ax7 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 07, 2025 7:16 amI have not ordered anything, I am on the fence about it....not sure if I will....just might save up a bit more to get a Fender Blacktop Jazzmaster HH
These knock offs might scratch an itch for a few minutes, but I gaurantee you will regret the purchase after the honey moon phase, and that’s if the guitar won’t have any issues which it likely will. I can’t imagine quality control on a dirt cheap counterfeit instrument is very high.

Imagine hanging out and suddenly Uncle Larry just pops by.
The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

Aren't they about $492 in the US now?

I actually watched that a few weeks ago and was kinda surprised at how not terrible for a sub-$300 guitar it was. Realistically, the biggest issue is the Gibson name being on the headstock.B.T. wrote: ↑Tue Apr 08, 2025 6:44 pmWatch this in its entirety and it might help in making up your mind

I were to hypothetically get one, I'd find a makerspace with a laser cutter around me to see if I could get a "Ch" cut into the spot where the "G" is and get my bestie (who's an epoxy artist) to fill it with white, swirly epoxy that's pearloid-ish.

I think it would be fun to have it say "Gibson't".

There's probably a lot of fun, goofy things that could be done with the right equipment and skills. Again, one of us hypothetically buying a Chibson is one thing because we know what we're looking at. Little Timmy who doesn't have a lot of money and even less knowledge, though... That's where these things become a problem. It's why every time anybody mentions anything about getting a guitar for their kid around me I'm always like "PLEASE, let me guide you in the right direction so you don't get ripped off and your kid gets a lifetime of musical enjoyment."

I was left feeling like a used Epiphone would be a better player out of the box and better return on investment should it come time to flip. To each their own.GilmourD wrote: ↑Wed Apr 09, 2025 3:51 amI actually watched that a few weeks ago and was kinda surprised at how not terrible for a sub-$300 guitar it was. Part of that may be my perspective on "out of the box". To me (and that's likely the problemB.T. wrote: ↑Wed Apr 09, 2025 5:41 amI was left feeling like a used Epiphone would be a better player out of the box and better return on investment should it come time to flip. So, I'd end up going through the same process setting up a Gibson, that used Epiphone in your example, a Chibson, a PRS, a Fender, or whatever.

Re: Chibsons on Temu
My old band used to share a practice space with some mutual friends. They had a 2000's Epi Les Paul over in the corner. Man I was impressed, changed my whole impression of those. Was a lot of bang for the buck. Just that headstock...GilmourD wrote: ↑Wed Apr 09, 2025 6:47 amPart of that may be my perspective on "out of the box". To me (and that's likely the problem), the only guitar I remember playing well out of the box was my factory-fresh direct-ordered-at-employee-pricing Peavey Wolfgang Special in 2004, when I was the buyer for a musical instrument shop that gave me access to playing hundreds of guitars at a time. Almost every other guitar I've touched has been... alright... but just about every one has needed adjustments to get to baseline spec, regardless of brand or level of market segment.
