Re: Setup of the day

Been playing mostly my Danielectro necked Esquire lately, but I just got this Mosrite and am a big fan especially after doing some work on the string guide past the zero fret and doing a thorough cleaning and polishing of the bridge pieces. Stays in tune now and just absolutely rips!

Those tube reverbs are great! I don’t ever unplug mine. If I’m playing, it’s through it.

Absolutely! I sold all of my reverb pedals (including a UA Golden Reverb) because these are all the reverb I need (I do have a TC Hall reverb for synths, though). I actually own two Fender Reverb tanks - a ‘63 and a ‘64. Brown tolex and black tolex, respectively.

Re: Setup of the day
I had a vintage 6G15 and a clone but sold them both. The clone sounded really nice but I never liked using it with other pedals, especially when bypassed (I used a Boss LS-2 later which worked very well). I didn't dig the vintage unit but in hindsight I think the pan was just really tired in it. Now I use a Surfybear Compact and love it, especially for the two switchable level settings! I still think my favorite non-drippy reverb comes from my Twin though.StevenO wrote: ↑Fri Apr 04, 2025 8:08 amAbsolutely! I never turn mine off, so no problem for me. Both have Gibbs pans in them. I also have a Gibbs pan in ‘71 Super Reverb. Beautiful sounding amp and reverb!

I have several 6G15s (vintage and newer clones) as well and they are integral part of my rig. I never turn them off.

Killer!! I still have my 64 Reverb. I’ve thought about selling but it’s soooo good.
Can we talk about that Mosrite!? The finish checking looks amazing! Was there a NGD?
EDIT: You’re gonna need a black leather jacket with that setup.

Never sell it! Nothing competes with an original reverb unit, IMO. They sound AND look good.Ursa Minor wrote: ↑Fri Apr 04, 2025 1:59 pmKiller!! I still have my 64 Reverb. I’ve thought about selling but it’s soooo good.

Let's talk about the Mosrite! I did a bit of trading/selling (got rid of my OTM JM) and wound up with this guy. It's a '67 and is beat and beautiful. It's been refretted, too, so it doesn't have those teeny weeny Mosrite frets. I honestly love it. The bridge needed a super deep clean (ultrasonic cleaner, light sandblasting to get rid of rush, vinegar soak, polishing, lubrication, etc) to keep the strings in tune and to stop the roller bridge saddles from sticking at random times). The pickups are gloriously hot but in a really nice and musical way. The trem is also a perfect mix between a Jazzmaster vibrato and a Bigsby. Very responsive, and with a shim under the spring, it's at a perfect height. I'm happy with it.

I'm slowly amassing all of my mid-life-crisis/dream-gear purchases, what with the Gretsch Viking and now this Mosrite. I definitely don't need anymore gear. But happy to do some selling and trading.

That is a wicked cool guitar. I’m glad it’s working out for you. Other than the typical stuff, I feel like those have some of the most iconic looks of anything out there. I’ve never used one so I have no experience as to the sounds though. But I’d own one on looks alone

The necks and bodies are super thin, so they’re a bit funky to play, but once you get used to them… Oh man, fun! The pickups are HOT, almost like a mix between a Jazzmaster and a P90, but without any nasally midrangey honk that tends to accompany overwound pickups.
I’m a big fan of this guitar.

I think I've been lusting after a Hallmark for at least 15 years now, preferably the RWB sparkle one although I'm open to deals on others
. I was just drooling on his site and it looks like prices and the Buy buttons have been removed and you have to email to inquire about availability now, is Hallmark still in business? Winding down to a close?

Really good looking guitar! The shape is iconic and the finish and patina makes it that much cooler. I never really paid much attention to them.
I don’t think I’ve ever encountered one in the wild and not sure why. I’ll be keeping an eye out now!

Re: Setup of the day
They seem oddly rare... They were in and out of business throughout the 70s, and then there were reissues from Japan and whatnot. I think a lot of them went to Japan because of their love for The ventures. I'm happy to have this one. It's a bit of a clunker, resonance and sustain-wise unplugged, but it sounds good when plugged in so I'm happy.Ursa Minor wrote: ↑Sun Apr 06, 2025 7:06 pmReally good looking guitar! The Hallmarks are so cool! I'd have loved a sparkle one, and figured one day I would... But this one came into my paws, so here I am.hulakatt wrote: ↑Sun Apr 06, 2025 1:40 pmI think I've been lusting after a Hallmark for at least 15 years now, preferably the RWB sparkle one although I'm open to deals on others. FWIW I don't think the website is maintained often but Bob Shade is pretty active on Facebook and regularly posts in Mostite and Hallmark groups when batches arrive inhulakatt wrote: ↑Sun Apr 06, 2025 1:40 pmI think I've been lusting after a Hallmark for at least 15 years now, preferably the RWB sparkle one although I'm open to deals on others.
