I also like some compression before my Muff-style fuzz but it's not a HUGE difference in my experience.Jonesie wrote: ↑Mon Mar 03, 2025 10:14 amI think I actually found the best way to enjoy the muff I have. I'm running a compressor before it, really subtle with the blend at about 75% dry / 25% effect. Really lets the high strings actually break through as opposed to just being mud all the way through.

That sounds like a good trick I'll have to try out.Jonesie wrote: ↑Mon Mar 03, 2025 10:14 amI think I actually found the best way to enjoy the muff I have. Nice! I like using a compressor before any fuzz pedal for a different response. I used to use an analog man Ross copy before a Fulltone 69 and it sounded like a cranked Marshall. This was a long time ago but it was a great sound.Jonesie wrote: ↑Mon Mar 03, 2025 10:14 amI think I actually found the best way to enjoy the muff I have. Perhaps not that interesting, but Fuzz Face variants are my #1. Whether something like a silicon or germanium Sun Face or circuit that is derived from the OG but a bit more evolved like a ZVex Fuzz Factory or a Woolly Mammoth. They just flat out work. So many other fuzzes that I LOVE are pretty situational, whereas a Fuzz Face can do almost everything (that I need).
Now count every rhododendron in this cool mountain light, I made more mistakes than that just tonight

I pretty much always come back to Fuzz Faces too. Fuzz Faces or the FY-2.

I’m interested in the new Caroline Wave Cannon Zero and the Wampler Cryptid too.
Wish I’d bought one of the ri EQD Dirt Transmitters a few months back

This makes me think of the Gilmour trick, using a Colorsound Power Boost, with a Muff:therizzla wrote: ↑Mon Mar 03, 2025 10:23 amI also like some compression before my Muff-style fuzz but it's not a HUGE difference in my experience.Jonesie wrote: ↑Mon Mar 03, 2025 10:14 amI think I actually found the best way to enjoy the muff I have. Gilmourish - EHX Big Muff and Colorsound Power Boost Tone Tutorial
It *is* subtle, but after hearing the difference, I can't imagine using a Muff-style circuit without it (or a Muff-style pedal with a built-in boost).

That Colorsound is coming on after the Muff, isn't it?
Seems like it's mostly recovering some of the midrange that's typically lost in most Muffs, no? Sort of like pairing a Tube Screamer with a Muff (and the endless debate on if the TS works best before or after the Muff)
Jack
P.S.: My two cents generally prefers the TS into the Muff, rather than after.

I believe that is how Gilmour uses it. I've read that he also uses the Powerboost just as fuzz by itself more than people think rather than the muff.

You guys think it’s possible to mod a op amp muff to remove the tone bypass switch?

I have no use for it and it’s just kinda pointless to have honestly

I have one of these in the 1580BB enclosure (not sure if it's different electronically or not though) and it's great with my Jazzmaster!

I have found that I don't like the Green Russian nearly as much as I though I did as a circuit but that's never stopped me from lusting after one of these!
