Re: Johnny Marr Sig Jaguar
I've played it through a headphone setup (Zoom G3) and it sounds fabulous. Those pickups make everything sound so clear and shimmery.
If the paint on the back and sides touching the case didn't have imperfections I would keep it. Natural wear is fine but not when I haven't even had 5 mins on it.
From checking it properly the marks and rough finish on the back, sides and part of the neck are exactly where the body sits against the material in the case. Without a doubt the nitro wasn't 'cured' as in those areas it feels rough and has almost wave like marks in it. Not like the rest of the finish.
I'm going to try another.
It is still a beautiful guitar. I just can't accept bad finishes.

Re: Johnny Marr Sig Jaguar
I've been gassing for one of these...acute gas since the Sherwood green was released.
I put my TS up on CL and had a pretty good bite. but in the end, I figured it's better to keep a guitar I love rather than sell it to (hopefully) get a guitar that I might love more.

If I was a byrd, I'd be mighty sore every time they shut the door and I don't think I'd sing...

Re: Johnny Marr Sig Jaguar
Before I packed it up I checked it again to make sure I wasn't being picky, and even my girlfriend who is less fussy thinks its pretty bad.
It sounds beautiful. I love the clean bright bridge pickup. Such a good colour scheme as well.
I noticed on last checking that the truss rod access line up seem to be off because the neck is on a slight angle, e.g. heading towards the ground if you have it strapped on. This means the strings don't sit on the fretboard correctly and the dots down the neck are WAY off. Looking at the recent NGD near this thread I've I've noticed their guitar doesn't have this.

Ok, lets see if the second Sherwood Green works out better. Gone with a different store and did a bit of bargaining with them.
This one will be fresh from Fender....apparently there are less than 10 left at Fender, rest are with stores.
As much as I was disappointed with the first, it still looked absolutely amazing, and the sound/feel was exactly what I hoped and more. Incredibly clean, chimey and bright.

Re: Johnny Marr Sig Jaguar
I've re-ordered a new one again, but after seeing another with less than fantastic QC in a different store, I'm becoming less excited.
My Baja Telecaster, which is £1000 less in the stores, is absolutely spot on. I don't understand how they can get it wrong on a £1600-1700 guitar.
This next one might be perfect but I'm asking for the store to check before I get it.
Anyone else having issues with the S Green?

Re: Johnny Marr Sig Jaguar
Had the same finish problem (case fabric imprint) when I bought my OW 62RI Jazzmaster from MF back along. I was really upset because the rest of the guitar was absolutelyt perfect and it played better than any of the other half-dozen or so that I got to play before ordering it. Problem was incompletely cured lacquer when it went into the case, allowing a slight imprint of the case's raised padded area onto the back of the guitar. I decided to keep it, and receive another very fair discount from MF (after a 15% off coupon), and was able to carefully buff out the imprint with MeGuire's polishing compounds. Ended up with my new AVRI62 Jazzmaster for a bit over $1200.....but was pretty sure I could buff out the defect before deciding to keep it. Some people don't care about such things, but I like my new stuff to be "new" and try to keep my guitars, etc. looking that way as I use them.
I really hope Musicman20's next one is perfect!

Thanks for your input, I thought I might not be the only one! It did happen on a Jazz bass some years ago when Fender seemed to get it to me very quickly.jdr1014 wrote:Had the same finish problem (case fabric imprint) when I bought my OW 62RI Jazzmaster from MF back along. That was a normal poly finish. The bass itself was also pretty awful so I ended up with another Musicman instead, but the recent Jazz basses are stunning.
The store didn't offer me anything off the JM. I'm quite shocked as the quality was quite poor, and Inoticed the 'off centre' truss rod/pickguard hole was actually a sign that the neck was slightly off. The string position confirmed this. I've seen plenty of white/KO JM's with perfect line up and a well aligned neck.
The new one is due to be with the other store soon, but I've made my concerns quite obvious...they've said if it has imperfections they won't accept it from Fender and I can try another or not bother. I just don't want the hassle of it being delivered and me discovering issues.
Just had (finally) my new Fender 68 Custom Deluxe Reverb delivered after a 2 month wait for new stock. As we all know, it is made in Mexico, and I am really really happy with the build quality and attention to detail, and that is before I even get it on and turn it up!
Fender Mexico seem to be really good now, judging by the Road Worns, Baja Tele and these new amps.
Proves that Fender can get it right and be totally on game!

Re: Johnny Marr Sig Jaguar
Interesting. So Fender is finally admitting that nearly all of their amps are made in Mexico now? I had an issue with them about what I thought was misleading to consumers about the origin of their amps. For the last several years amps such as the twin reverb reissue, the deluxe reissue, the supersonic, would all simply state "a product of Fender musical instruments, Corona, CA". There was no made in ________" anywhere on the amps. I sent them an email about it and their response was they felt there was enough domestic content to justify this labeling. I am betting the federal trade commission didn't agree and is making Fender label it made in Mexico now. So, is there any new USA made fender amps anymore? I guess I don't really care because there is 50 years of used USA fender amps on the market. But, I do think it is a sad day if they are no longer making amps here.

Re: Johnny Marr Sig Jaguar
The Baja Tele uses a poly finish, whereas the JM Jag is nitro. Poly dries very quickly, nitro takes ages - my CS ESPs cases still wreaked of solvent 10 years later.Musicman20 wrote:I've re-ordered a new one again, but after seeing another with less than fantastic QC in a different store, I'm becoming less excited.

The poly coating will always look the way it does now, apart from when it gets chipped whereas the nitro finish will sink into the wood grain as it shrinks over the years and it will show up every scratch and dent along the way.
If Fender is guilty of anything here, it's not leaving the finished bodies long enough to cure before building them.
Outside of Custom Shop, all their production stuff has been using poly since about '62-64.
By the way, don't waste money buying polishes for poly coatings. They're rock hard, a damp cloth is enough.

I know the recent 68 reissues are basically modified versions of the 65 amps, and the 68's are all made in Mexico. I think the other amps, e.g. 65 DR are still USA made.gutter rock wrote:Interesting.
