Twin Reverb Sound Amps?

Post by kle » Wed May 21, 2008 5:46 am

I recently fell in love with the Fender Twin Reverb Sound, mostly due to this.
I want that tone & an amp that stays clean for a long time, but i can't afford a Twin Reverb currently.
I was looking at Hiwatt 'clones' (different, very different but nice), but i'm not so sure about them.

Fender doesn't seem to have any not-so-pricey (well, the Twin Reverb isn't that pricey actually, just too much for me know) clean amps, so i'm currently looking out for alternatives. Anything you guys can recommend me?

Depends on how much you want to spend... I paid € 600 for a 70s Vibrosonic Reverb last week, which is pretty much the same amp as a Twin, but with a wide-range speaker (which I prefer over the stock 12"s).

How about a modelling amp? Some of them do the clean sound thing really well.

I'm a bit of a traditionalist - if i know it's not a tube amp, it doesn't sound right.
That's stupid, i know. But it just doesn't feel right. ::)

check out ampeg's reverberocket -- they are all slightly different than,
but still rock out.. w/ vib + reverb -- also musicman makes some worthy
twin-esque type combo's but both are much brighter sounding and slightly
more voxish if that means anything to you.

Damn reverse placebo effect ;).

Yeah, I know what you mean. But as far as recording goes, I have given up my resistance after hearing SimulAnalog's Twin model. At some settings, I really can't tell it apart from my amp (when recorded, of course). I don't know, just try it once. You know you want to ;).

(I'm expecting someone to post "kids, just say no" now.)

Twins & Vibrosonics: 6L6. Vibroverbs: I don't know.

The Ampeg Reverbrocket seems pretty cool. Does anyone have experience with the Ampeg Super Jet?
I'll just look out to sell my current amp (Peavey Classic 30) and see how much i can get.

super jets and jets are sweet too.. some have rev/trem some just trem
some have neither.. it's strange, but they are really nice amps.. go vintage
though.. it's cheaper and they sound better IMO

There isn't really a chance to find vintage Ampeg guitar amps round here.

IMO you cant imitate the sound quality of a TR. just save up for a RI TR man,itl be worth it.

you could always get a silverface twin.

Not hardly the same thing, but they are still pretty sweet.

It's hard, because making a loud, clean amp is the most expensive kind of amp to make (requires bigger transformers, efficient speakers, more tubes and sockets, etc etc.

A silverface, master volume twin reverb would probably be the cheapest way to go.
