I recently bought a Squier Jaguar bass for my daughter but have found myself picking up quite often as the 30” scale and 7.5 lb weight make it a quite nice couch bass. The only thing I don’t like is the 1.5” nut width and thin neck.
This got me thinking about maybe trying to track down a vintage Mustang bass. My 1970 Mustang guitar had the perfect nut width, 1 5/8”, and was .89” deep at the first fret, with almost zero taper, keeping that depth consistent all the way down the neck.
So for all you that have a vintage Mustang bass, what is the neck like?

The neck on mine is just under 1 5/8" wide at the nut. Depth is about .82" deep at the first fret, barely thickening up to about .88" at the heel. I haven't taken it apart, but the previous owner told me it's a 1969.

Thanks. I found a 1978 locally to check out, hopefully this weekend. Would love to find a 68-71 locally though.

Mustang Bass necks are usually a little wider than Jazz bass necks. IME, in between a P and a J.
