Here is dug's Blacktop Jazzmaster as it came to me.

AVRI pickguards line up great. Here is a pic. (Note I will be using a white pickguard, I just had this one around for those bodies I am making from scratch.)

This one didn't have the bridge ground soldered to anything... LOL :fp:

Here is my marking (washable marker) for routing to get it set for horn controls and another JM pickup.

The goal:

Warmoth fatneck neck.
Two tones and one volume.
1meg pots.
Side jack.
White aged pickguard with added bass cut switch. (Ala Jaguar)
New Curtis Novak JM-V or maybe keep the neck and add a GFS Hot. I love the audio sample of the hot on the tech section.

Other than the ground not being connected, here are some other interesting things.

The bridge pickup's ground was ran all the way to the three way switch, taped off with masking tape, soldered to a different wire that ran to the back of the pot... :fp: The pots were 500k's, but I plan to change them to 1meg's.

They glued the neck pickup cover on to the pickup and the foam to the pickup instead of the body. Is that normal? My first Jazzmaster autopsy, but I thought it would be glued to the body.

Oh if it isn't anywhere else, this is what the underside of the Blacktop trem looks like. I will be putting an AVRI one in it's place and using this on my Rocket Tone body that is coming in the mail from Nick.

Routing question. Is the horn control route the same depth as the pickup cavity or the lower depth like where the pots and toggle are?

Below is a diagram I came up with to make it happen. :)

I did the drill press work today. I was shocked at how deep those control areas are routed. I was afraid of popping out the back of it. For the bridge pickup, since it is routed deeper for a humbucker, should I glue in a wood block to bring the depth up or just use a thicker piece of foam under the pickup? I am thinking the wood route would be best, but wanted advice. I will add pics a bit later once I can get some shots of it. It looks like a mummy at the moment with all the tape on the body. LOL

Here is the routing. Bascially done. I need to still shield them up and confirm the bridge spacing fits a JM pickup now.

Here is how it looks with an AVRI sized pickguard.

Here is the new 7/8 hole for a side jack. (Since I will be doing two tones and one volume.)

AVRI Trem came and is on. :)

Bridge pickup fits it seems. Just needs foam to lift it.

I ordered all my pots, caps, knobs, side jack, and bridge pickup. (GFS Hot Thanks Green Angel)

I need to pick up shielding tape still and that should have me good to go to assemble.

Thanks! I need to bite the bullet and get the new neck still. Tossing a CBS strat style neck and a Jazzmaster neck from Warmoth back and forth. Allparts is cheaper, but I don't know how good their necks are. Anyone have advice?

Sadly none here. Maybe an after market AVRI neck? If you can find one.

Those are often more than a custom Warmoth neck. I will have to be on the lookout.

I have a Warmoth Jazzmaster Pro neck which I love: '59 roundback, 9.5" radius, finished in their "vintage tint gloss". Highly recommended for any non-original builds, if the price is right for your budget.

Also, since it looks like you're in Puyallup - buy local! ;D

Yup! They are down Meridian from where I live, but sadly won't let me see their factory even though I asked nicely. :)
