setting up amp at rehearsal

hi all

its been a long time since i gigged or used a studio
so bear with me.....

I have a new (old) 60w all tube amp and it going to rehearsals with me
this amp has been at 4-5 and was really loud, I would imagine it
will be loud enough to get over the bass and drums? what do you think?

would you just crank it and use on its own or would you go into the PA
and use it like a monitor? i have never used the "out"... will it bypass the speaker
or will the speaker still be active?

also, i heard a rumour before that using the out on a tube amp
can be dodgy?? maybe it was a headphone comment, can anyone clarify this?

last thing.. i have a zoom rack that i want to use for odd wierd effects
but dont want it in the front (its a tone leech!!) i already have a boss me6 in the loop
and cant get the zoom to loop into the me6 (i posted a thread, got no bites)
so.. where could I put the zoom? between the out and the PA

any tips welcome

A 60 watt tube amp is plenty for gigging and rehearsals. I have a 9 watt tube amp that is plenty for small gigs and rehearsals. If you find it's not enough mic it, though that will probably never happen. Remember that, "MIC it if it's not enough."
As far as the Zoom problem goes: you could get a line splitter, or an A/B/Y box and go direct into the amp, and then put the Zooms shitty effects through the P.A.
You could also try the Zoom with an e.q. pedal before or after it. It's an excuse to buy a useful eq pedal, and it might boost it enough to even work in your Effects Loop.

As pullover says, I'd be exrtemely surprised if a 60W valve amp wasn't loud enough to cover bass and drums in a room.

Um, with a 60 W tube amp, the drummer and the bassist will likely be asking you to turn down if you crank it...

definitely. I'm using a 40W fender blues deluxe that is too loud for practice most of the time.

...unless your playing stadiums & festivals, anything over 15 watts(on an amp stand) is probably overkill for most bands unless:
a)you have several band members more than the normal 4 or 5 piece - like if you had two drummers, three guitarists, etc
b)you want little or absolutely no distortion at all so you get something very loud(like a Twin) so you have a ton of headroom

regarding the zoom....

is it not possible to loop it into the me-6 and put both
those items in the fx loop... the zoom needs a preamp or stompbox
will the me6 not have the power required?
