This is has just been in a case for over a year now and a couple weeks ago took it upon myself to solder in a pickup. I am a complete n00b to soldering and thought it was easy, until I got no sound. I followed the diagram completely and was really disappointed in myself. I called upon fellow forumite Jay and he helped me out. Basically, he set up my guitar and the fixed the wiring (the only thing I hadn't done was wire a hot to the jack).
My Toronado has a slab board neck too. I found that quite bizarre. I got this for a ridiculously cheap and it is just a beater guitar.

A bit OT.
Why did you put the black tape around the body? it has some sort of function in the overall use of the guitar? I wonder because also SY have some pieces of tape in certain point, over some pickguard screws or over the pickup poles, not the same thing but I've seen that also Steve Vai use to put some tape over the pickups..
Architecture students are like virgins with an itch they cannot scratch, never build a building 'till are fifty, what kind of life is that?

I don't know what OT, but the pieces of tape I have on the guitar cover these etches someone made into the paint before I bought it. Mostly that is the only reason I got it for as cheap as I did. My pickguard is missing some screws so it sticks up a little there and I just put tape because I have tape in multiple quantities.

Just for future reference, OT means off topic.
Carry on...
