I had an awakening! (HRDx content)

Back in April, after using my Hot Rod Deluxe for a year, I bought a Silverface Twin.  The amp is great, and I absolutely adore it. 

The HRD has been sitting, only being played at small gigs.  It has never had enough balls, or oomph, seeming to "fart" out at any volume above 2. 

I took it to a gig this weekend, and I asked our bass player if he could bring his Legacy 2-12 Cab loaded with Celestion Vintage 30's.  I hooked it up to my HRD, and it came alive!  Nice clean, thick bottom end, and singing highs.  I knew that 40 watts was plenty, but the single 12 was really limiting the amp's capability. 

Don't get me wrong, I love the Hot Rod Deluxe.  It just doesn't have the headroom or bottom end that the Twin does.  However, wiith the Extension Cab, it was an entirely different animal.  If I would have bought an ext. cab before, I wouldn't have needed the Twin.

If anyone has a Hot Rod Deluxe, I highly recommend this addition.  It will really allow you to open the amp up, while retaining tone.

Is that Laney closed back? I like closed back cabs. A much more focused sound.

You should totally get a nice 2x12. Old Bassman/Bandmaster cabs go for cheap, cheap, cheap. I got my 64-ish Fender Bassman cab for around 300 or so. It has old Jensens in it. Sounds good.

I've got the Twin, so I don't need another amp.  I just thought that thing sounded great!
