They do look fantastic as basses.
Someday I’ll get one. It’s like an even more comfortable Jazz Bass. Even got a nice Jazz Bass neck on them.
I did not like the short scale Squier version at all.

Sweet! I have an American Standard version of these and it's pretty good. I can sell my Jazz bass now.

I guess I’ll be the contrarian. While I do agree Jag basses look cool, I always think the Jazz and precision bass designs are the coolest.

That does look good. I could be seriously tempted by one of those and I don't even play bass I guess it's never too late to learn! Is the switching the same as a regular 6 string Jag?
Re: Jag basses look cool
My brother had one of the original ones with the jazz bass pickup configuration? Olympic white with block inlays. Looked beautiful. Didn’t sound that great to me. A bit flat. But I think a lot of bass players love that kind of dead sound.
He also happens to own what could be one of the best sounding Jazz basses I’ve ever heard. It’s some kind Mexican reissue from the mid 2000s. Anyways, not surprised he’s never really considered anything else since getting lucky with that one. Looks and sounds amazing .

I hate the P+J pickup config so much.
I wish they either stuck to the Jazz pickup config like on yours (which looks great btw) or just a sole P-Bass pickup like the ones Mark Hoppus is playing atm.

Love and hate were in the air like pollen from a flower.

I kind of float between, sometimes I think they're the coolest ever, sometimes it makes me think of yer da (a Jazz bass) in a leather jacket.daysleeperjeff wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2019 7:40 amI guess I’ll be the contrarian. P&J sounds good in theory and looks terrible in practice. I don't like it. It looks mismatched, and Fender slap it on everything at the moment. On the Jaguar bass, I can even understand it because it's a relatively new model that didn't have decades of a standard look, but on Mustangs, Jazz and especially P basses it drives me crazy.Lobsterdeth wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2019 11:43 pmI hate the P+J pickup config so much.

Worse are only those with a P pickup in the middle and a Stingray style giant mother-of-all-humbuckers behind that. Yuck. I'm glad Fender doesn't really do those.

^ that's why I love soapbars on bass. EMG has one standard casing size each for 4, 5 and 6 string bass, and you can choose from P, J, and humbucker options without having any visual mismatch.
Like this here could be J/J, P/J, P/HB, or HB/HB and you'd never know:

On my American Jag Bass, the switch on the upper horn changes it from passive to active mode and the wheels are the active treble and bass controls. The lower switches are similar to a regular Jaguar. I don't know about the Japanese or Mexican Jag basses' controls though.Downsideup11 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2019 10:00 amThat does look good. Re: Jag basses look cool
I sort of prefer the look of a regular Jazz, but the Jaguar bass isn’t ugly. I think the Stingray is what a bass ought to look like; it basically has a giant target on it so you know where to aim when you slap it.
King Buzzo: I love when people come up to me and say “Your guitar sound was better on Stoner Witch, when you used a Les Paul. “...I used a Fender Mustang reissue on that, dumbass!
