My guess would be the MIJ/CIJ ones. If you know exactly what your looking for, you can explain that to Curtis Novak and he'll tell you what he has that can fit your need. http://www.curtisnovak.com/pickups/jag-v.shtmltone_deaf wrote:tone_deaf wrote: Which jag pickups have the brightest and trebly sound?
Why should we buy postage stamps? We can make our own.

My Jag has Novak pickups and it sounds very bright and trebly. Almost like an AVRI, but hotter and more rounded...

Here's a totally different question. I think this hasn't been addressed, but forgive me if I missed it. I was looking over the wiring diagrams of the Jag and Jazz and I noticed the wiring from the pickup selector in the Jazzmaster goes to the volume pot but then goes to the tone pot on Jags. Does anyone know the reason for this?

The tone pot comes off parallel to the circuit so I suppose it doesn't matter whether it's before or after the vol pot .. is that what you mean?
That Jag schematic is an eyeful though and I've never wired one personally, only JMs, so I'd be interested to hear other opinions since I will have one to tackle in the next couple of months.

I don't know what I mean. I don't know what "parallel to the circuit" means. I was just wondering why they were different...mezcalhead wrote: The tone pot comes off parallel to the circuit so I suppose it doesn't matter whether it's before or after the vol pot .. is that what you mean?

What Mezcalhead is is saying is even though they may look like they are wired different they still function exactly the same.

Which brings us back to my original question. If they function the same, why bother wiring them differently?pullover wrote: What Mezcalhead is is saying is even though they may look like they are wired different they still function exactly the same.

Actually, now I look closer at the schematic, there's a resistor on the tone pot which I think would be in series in the circuit when the tone pot was fully open (as well as the usual capacitor connected to ground to drain off treble frequencies). I guess that would reduce volume .. so perhaps it's there to compensate for volume loss when the tone was turned down?
Pullover, what do you think?

I can't look at it right now, but it sounds like that resistor changes the taper of the of the knob, and makes the curve smoother.

OK, that makes sense .. and that wouldn't work if the entire tone pot was parallel to the main circuit, so that explains the wiring I guess.

Re: -=Jazzmaster and Jaguar Pickups and Electronics FAQ=-
Ok, I just looked at both wiring diagrams, and that's what they've done. The Jazzmaster uses a Linear pot for the Volume, and an Audio Pot for tone. The Jaguar uses two Audio pots, then they use that resistor to change the curve of the tone knob.
As to "Why?" I have no idea, unless a different designer came up with the Jaguar circuit? Maybe the knob is more even the Jaguar way?

Re: -=Jazzmaster and Jaguar Pickups and Electronics FAQ=-
I just want to say that Curtis Novak now offers 2 new pickups for Jazzmaster:
- the JM-T : Telecaster Bridge pickup made for the Jazzmaster form factor.
http://www.curtisnovak.com/pickups/jmt.shtml
- the JM-FAT : Jazzmaster® / with Strat magnets and fatter wire.
http://www.curtisnovak.com/pickups/jm-fat.shtml
Maybe It would be nice to mention them in the first post of the FAQs..

He also has a second set of Jaguar pickups. They use taller magnets, thicker guage wire

Re: -=Jazzmaster and Jaguar Pickups and Electronics FAQ=-
Is it worth it to swap out the pickups in my AVRI for a set of Antiquity II pickups?
I like the sound my AVRI has now, but it is hella bright, and harsh at times, so I'm kinda trying to find ways to tame that brightness. MY amp EQ can take care of it to a degree, but I feel like it loses something when I do that.
