BTW,  my bandmate had a reissue Twin, and I thought it sounded too "ice-pickey".  It was really bright, and lacked character.  Of course, it could have been his playing, his guitar, or settings on the amp itself.

Another reason I prefer the SF over a Reissue, is that they hold their value, and techs will work on them.  What's a Twin RI worth?  $500-$600?  I've seen '68-'71 Twins fetching $1000 or more. (Not that I'd pay that much. :wtf:)
:)

I bet the ice-pickiness was the reissue eminence "gold label" speakers.  Those things are terrible, IME.  The Jensen clones they are putting in them now are much better, in my experience.

I had a pro jr. with the stock ceramic Eminence... Emi makes good speakers, but those things were bad.  Put a weber in and it totally changed the complexion of the amp!

Its true that each amp sounds slightly different, but each era had a sound. the differences between a brownface and silverface is too vast to rely on having experience with a few amps from the era.

You dont need to own a tweed amp to know that you like that sound the most. I liked the blackface tone before I ever had one. Im aware that people might have a bias, but the reason why they own it is because they preferred it in the first place. Especially if its an amp that costs a little more, like a brown bandmaster.

I think it had Jensens, but I couldn't be sure.  He bought a Vox, and stopped using the Twin...Then he traded the Twin a couple weeks ago+cash for a Matchless.

Oh I agree totally.  But you have to admit that on message boards and such there is often a "Harmony Central Review" syndrome.

"OMG THIS AMP IS TOTALLY THE BEST AMP EVARRR!!!!!!111  IT HAS THE FATEST TONE AND IS SOOO PUNCHY OMG!!!!!!!11111"
Oh yea I agree.  I know what you mean.

Yup, there is definitely a "family sound" for each group.  I prefer brownface because tweeds sound a little too soft for me and blackfaces sound a little too stiff.  I find that brownfaces are a nice compromise, plus I love the trem.  I won't even mention the fact that blonde/white knob combo is clearly the best looking thing they ever came up with.

I have a blackface bandmaster but end up playing my concert II more, for whatever reason. (well, it has reverb).

"parasitic oscillations" should be a band name, ideally post-punk synth stuff (?) / trashy cold-wave.

I own a '62 Deluxe and a '63 Bassman.

Guess what I voted.
