Since there was already 3 guys playing guitars in the amp room and i only had 10 minutes, i could only play them unplugged :(
But I'll let you know how the pickups are when I've got my Jazzmaster :)

Played one of the Jags today and was distinctly unimpressed. Was really hoping these would be something solid to build on, but the neck felt pretty poor and the frets were like razor blades. Pickups were dull and the concentric pots do not work at all, shockingly bad, and as for the bridge, it really is as terrible as it looks. This would need serious modification to make it half decent and for the price (instore £320) it dosn't really seem worth it when you can get a second hand CP on the bay for not much more. These are in the same price range as the Classic Vibe Strats and Teles and I cant understand how the quality gulf can be so huge. May have been a bad example, but im not holding out much hope for the Jazzmaster eiter.

Looks nice though :D

since it's called a Jazzmaster Special does that mean another model is coming out? like a JM Standard or something?

Whenever I think about how amazing it would be, I remember how much the trem, bridge and roller pots cost. Add those to the cost of the vintage modified and you are out of squier country.

Just now got a call from my local music store and my Butterscotch Squier Jazzmaster is in!! I will pick it up tonight and expect to pay my super tech $60 for a pro set up. Fret dressing and neck set by a pro makes an amazing difference. Even my expensive US built Jazzers had big improvements with his magic. Full report on my initial observations tomorrow compared to my gold standard beloved 100% stock 66' Jazzer thru my Fender Hot Rod Deville 2 x 12". I am stoked!!! :-)

Got my new Butterscotch Squier Jazzer last night and LOVE it!! As the proud owner, for the past 25 years, of 4 vintage 60's Jazzers, I have exclusively played these great guitars in an aggresive 3 piece classic rock band. So how does the Squier compare? First, I love the styling. It has that early Tele/Esquire/Broadcaster/Nocaster look n' vibe that has always appealed to me. The quality of the finish is superb and I only wish the black pick up covers has some contrast from the black pickguard. I'm thinking about scotchbriting the pickup covers to dull the the glossiness down. Maybe. The maple neck is awesome! Nice deep smooth vintage aged tint, great frets (!!), coolio headstock decal and action/intonation surprisingly decent/playable out the box. Finally the sound..... first of all I am a 100% bridge pup player. While my 99' Fender Hot Rod Deville 2x12" was warming up I tuned up. The vintage (Kluson look) style tuners were smooth and it tuned up great. With the amp on the gain channel with 3/4 gain and 1/4 volume it flat rocks. The stock Duncan design pup has a warm growl yet with nice clarity with amp gain. Very musical. Not quite as chimy/resonant as my heavenly fav 66' pup but better that my 64' and 65'. I am not planning a pup change. With the clean channel it was very sweet as I played Pipeline with the reverb on 5. Wonderful! It has the classic Jazzmaster tone. After it has a chance to season a bit I will have it totally pro set with neck angle and fret end magic plus my string of choice, Ernie Ball Power Slinkys, .011"- .048" (purple pack). Overall very pleased and better than expected in all aspects! Thanks Fender for a superb (and cheap at $300) variation of my favorite guitar design!! :-)

Thanks for the review lajk64,

I definatly going to pick one off these up second hand, when they start selling them second hand ;)

I don't know if this is mentioned earlier but I just went trough some fender prototypes and somehow I think squier copied some features from the prototype.

1st prototype:

2nd prototype

and somehow squier did the colours, of the first two prototypes + matching pickguards

They copied from the first prototype the:
-maple neck
-strat input

So all you need is a strat trem with a custom jazzmasterlike trem arm
and curtis novak 7 pole jazzmaster pickups.
And from what I guess two volume pots and custom pickguard, and you just made yourself a prototype jazzmaster 8)

I'm really digging the other prototype on the right side of that image...anyone else see a telecaster deluxe with JM 7-pole pickups? Its almost the anti-Jazzblaster.
