Scrapmaster comes back to life

Post by amplituden » Tue Jul 17, 2012 5:16 pm

Hi there.

After scoring the Scrapmaster body of forumite Empyrean, I set upon a quest to budget build it up.

Last night I got it together and intonated it. I haven't actually had a chance to play it through an amp yet, but it feels pretty good.

All in all I got everything for under $300. Not too shabby.

The only issue is that the trem seems to be rubbing against the cavity inside, I may have to borrow a dremel and remove a little wood so it moves freely.

I think eventually I would like to put some WRHBs in it an make it into a jazzblaster.

Here is a cruddy Iphone pic.

Cheers.

So glad to see this alive again! I was just nostalgically listening to some recordings I did with it.

I always wanted to put a rosewood neck on it, you're in for a lot of fun with that one! Hopefully you'll dig the sound of the series mode as much as I did, the clearest humbucker tone you'll ever hear.

Weird about the cavity though, I wonder if AVRI trems are slightly larger than the MIJ one I had on there before.

So happy it stayed in the OSG family! (And locally to boot!)

After much messing about here is the new and improved Scrapmaster 2.0.

After I had it assembled the first time I didn't really like the neck that I had on it. As well, I was constantly knocking off the Low E with my cavman like guitar style. So I put a buzz stop on it.

A neck showed up on the guitars Canada forum for a reasonable amount of money that was much better suited for this guitar so I pounced.

Two weeks ago I took it in to Electrical Standard and had the tech put it all together. He made me a new nut out of bone, set it up and completely re-wired it. I had him put on some black pickup covers and a Mustang bridge.

It now sounds really nice and looks great. He also got the trem sitting right, I was having some issues with it rubbing a bit on the inside of the cavity.

I think eventually I will replace the pickups with some Pickup Wizards but for now I am just glad that I can finally play it again.

Yeah its wired the same he just wanted to get it soldered a little more solid. There were a couple of points that were sort of coming off.

This neck is so nice and it matches the finish of the guitar which is nice.

Thanks I like it, its a nice compliment to my AVRI Jazzmaster.
It has a darker tone. Its a little heavy, but I am getting used to it. The Series/Parellel wiring makes for some interesting tonal options.
The Mustang bridge is working fine as well, I feel no need to get an Mastery or Staytrem one.
