Re: Best Amp For A Fender Bass VI....?
I just stumbled onto what may well be the best VI amp I've ever encountered: Yamaha Hundred 212 (G100 212 Version I).
The tone is perfect, it's plenty loud, the reverb is huge and lush (large pan), and possibly the best in-amp tremolo EVER. There are also later versions (II has a parametric EQ section, the III has other stuff; but rumored to be unreliable); but the version I is the only one with the tremolo.
Best of all, these things sell for peanuts (I traded a used Vexter Box-Of-Rock overdrive pedal and a Banshee talk box for mine, PLUS got a new set of Ernie Ball casters and a new-with-wooden-box EHX Small Clone thrown in!).
Try it. You WON'T be disappointed.
So sayeth MONGOOSE

I swear by my Fender BXR bass amp, I jump between playing guitar and 'lead' bass and my Rivoli sounds amazing through it .
Galleries of beautiful and vintage guitars.

Aren't those the solid state Yamahas that everyone raves on about? I think Bob Mould used them a bit in Husker Du if I'm not mistaken. Definitely supposed to be great bargain amps.mongoose wrote:I just stumbled onto what may well be the best VI amp I've ever encountered: Yamaha Hundred 212 (G100 212 Version I).

That's the 2nd version in the video, I believe. It has a parametric eq, which can be useful; but lacks the killer tremolo (which you may or may not care about).
Mould used one, Mike Stern still swears by his. The distortion is actually usable (unlike, say that on a JC-120), if not spectacular; and the reverb (on version I's, at least) is really good.
The pedal steel player in my Classic Country band has already adopted mine for rehearsals, and those guys aren't easy to please!

Sounds good, I'll see if I can find a clip somewhere.

I think this thread deserves a resurrection. It will be much discussed in the near future...

+1 for the Showman.therizzla wrote:Blackface Showman and a cab with either one or two 15" speakers (JBL or Weber Californians) depending on your needs.
I run my VI into a 1968 Dual Showman (blackface circuit) with a custom made cabinet featuring 1x15" and 2x10" Weber Californias. Perfect sound.
The VI also likes my 1962 Fender Pro (40W 15" combo) a lot.
And my klon clone is great with the VI.

Fender 75 gets my vote, if you're using the Bass VI as more of a guitar than bass.

Re: Best Amp For A Fender Bass VI....?
Yeah, I got one after starting this thread. It's a 1x15 tube combo that I use with my 67 Bass VI. I tend to use the Bass VI as more of a guitar and the 15" speaker helps with some of the extra low frequencies that the Bass VI can produce. I haven't made any demos of mine, but you can some of the tones this amp produces here:jimboyogi wrote:Have you tried one out, or picked one up?GAZINGUK wrote:Fender 75 gets my vote, if you're using the Bass VI as more of a guitar than bass.

I use it for a clean tone and add pedals for any fuzz, distortion, modulation etc... I want.

Re: Best Amp For A Fender Bass VI....?
The Fender 75 sounds heavy (to carry). I am more curious about running a guitar head into a bass cab, best of both worlds, right?
