I'd have a hell of a lot more tolerance if it weren't a thinly veiled attempt (again) at selling a Fender to Gibson owners. If they want to do that, fine. But there are models that already do that. No need to dress a JM up and put on a dog and pony show.blake480 wrote:Hey. It's the boohoo guy!Tehz_ wrote:boohoo it isn't the exact same guitar they've been making since 1959 boohoo
open your minds a little bit, folks, it won't kill you. i can't really think of any reason to hate on the thing this much besides just a refusal to accept anything besides the exact model leo showed us way back when. gimme a break, even if you hate it this much at least some people who can't get along with the standard configuration might be able to enjoy a jazzmaster at last. offset guitars may have been a club of elitists for a long time but that doesn't mean it needs to stay that way.

Hey I love my Toronado and that's exactly what it was. 24.75" scale, dual humbuckers, 4 knob, upper horn toggle, only major differences are the string through body and bolt on neck.farmer42 wrote:I'd have a hell of a lot more tolerance if it weren't a thinly veiled attempt (again) at selling a Fender to Gibson owners. The Toronado is one of the guitars I was referencing as already doing it. They're great guitars, and I think they do a wonderful job of presenting a unique take on a Gibson. THis? This is not unique. It's like giving a wink and a nudge and pretending like they aren't. I actually have a lot of respect for the MP Jag. I wish they had tossed a different name on it, but it knows that it is and it doesn't pretend to be anything but. This thing can't decide.

Re: WTF IS THIS!? (American Special Jazzmaster?)
Brilliant idea- Squier just blew out their version of this because they didn't sell, so obviously the market is demanding a $1K+ version.
Also- a $1,2500 guitar only comes with a gig bag? Lame.
As for the 'Limited Jazzmaster Pro'- so wrong on so many different levels it boggles the mind. If you want to build some ridiculous abortion of a guitar, fine- just call it the "Idioticaster" or something. That thing has about as much to do with a Jazzmaster as a Fender Rhodes does.

Re: WTF IS THIS!? (American Special Jazzmaster?)
1.) The special seems most odd because of the lack of a standard, but it's tough to put the toothpaste back in bottle. the AVRI was pretty much everything the standard should be. I'm more upset that they seem to have replaced that with the '65 American Vintage thing at an absolutely insane price point.
2.) Fender has obviously decided that their guitars are defined by shapes, period. Almost every other feature is fair game. We're just going to have to deal with it and keep modding 'em.
3.) Can someone think of another example of Fender putting humbuckers under single coil pickup covers? I know Duncan's custom shop has been making a pickup like that for a while, but I haven't seen it in action. Would this mean that the routs are big enough for JM single coils? If that's the case at least you'd be able to throw some AVRI's or Antiquities or what have you in there without a hassle.

It seems an odd move.
I hate to admit it, but I think it's quite nice looking. Though without a floating trem or neck pick-up, I wouldn't touch it with a barge-pole...

If it was at $400 I'd hit and have someone route for a JM neck PUP.Neon wrote:if you don't like the American Special, i can't imagine how much you'll hate this 'Limited Jazzmaster Pro'

Re: WTF IS THIS!? (American Special Jazzmaster?)
Has anyone heard what a Jazzmaster neck pickup sounds like with a TOM bridge design? I'd be interested in hearing it. The FAIL on this guitar is that they aren't using jazzmaster pickups. I have a les paul, and I love how it stays in tune, and the flatter neck. I've always wanted to play the bastard child of a Les and my AVRI JM. This seems close.
Gibson LP Classic, AVRI Jazzmaster, Taylor 614CE, Marshall Class 5, 65 TRRI
