i have almost lost sleep over the matching headstock question......  ::)
but this is supposed to be a 1960- they didn't do matching headstocks at the time. my decal is 58-61 too.
also, if i ever find a 59-60 neck, i can slap that on this body, and the musikraft copy neck can go onto another body-- without the strange daphne headstock!

I gotta say, I feel bad for you purists! :(  You have the ability to make a guitar in any way, shape or form you desire and you feel compelled to do something a certain way, just because that was the way someone (most likely out of short-sightedness) decided it should be done 40 or 50 years ago.
If you're restoring a vintage guitar to vintage specs, that's one thing.  But I'd say make the headstock any damn color you want instead of losing sleep over it.  It's your guitar!

...but that's just me... ::)
One more guitar, then I'll practice!

You think you can't, you wish you could, I know you can, I wish you would. Slip inside this house as you pass by.

I actually like it if you can see at least a piece of "bare" wood on a guitar (plain headstock), but it depends on the color combo, really.
Maybe just leave it as is for a while and then decide? I mean, you could paint the headstock any time later on...

Sleep well

my smiley face  ::) meant that i was being less than serious.
i usually sleep very soundly. certainly guitars don't waken me!
i know, i know. i am a boring traditionalist. some guitars i have made wandered from the original design. and i liked them for their originality. however, this body is working its way back to being a reconstructed vintage guitar. Therefore the time and trouble to make a facsimile neck. And as i said, if i CAN find and acquire a true, vintage neck, i would like to move this neck to a repro project. most likely my Korinamaster.

She's beautiful, really really beautiful.  :-*  And I think you just helped me decide what pickguard to get for my Shell Pink '62 re-fin.  :)

heh. i'll tell ya...
i have a mighty mite jazz bass body in maple. i have had it for years and wasn't sure what to do with it.
i considered doing it shell pink- i have seen repro shell pink jazz basses go for silly amounts on the 'bay-----
but if i were to keep it---
His and Hers guitars? pink and baby blue? too funny.
i think mint looks excellent on Shell pink. make sure to share that with us on the site!

Is that musikraft neck tight ti the body?
How does it feel?
I think I'm gonna get one of those necks

i think the musikraft neck was probably spot on. the neck joint and neck itself don't have layers of nitro, so it's not a tight fit.
the neck did have some chatter marks on it from when it was cut. i was able to sand out most of these fine deeper lines. the ones i missed soaked up colour from my pre-stain, so they're visible. no biggie.
the actual truss adjustment is off centre, believe it or not. by 3 mm or so. doesn't sound like much, but it is noticeable if you have a pickguard with a slight cutout to get your screwdriver in. the neck is such a beauty that i chose not to complain to the manufacturer. mounted on the body, it isn't really noticeable. Much.
the feel of the neck is great. i ordered it chunky. it is a little baseball bat-like- but that's what i wanted.
i also ordered aged cream dots and side markers. they're very nice.
i think for the same money a Warmoth would have been a better neck, but obviously Warmoth wouldn't make a vintage Jazzmaster-styled neck.

It certainly does look fabulous!!  I agree with you on the period accuracy bit.  I'm a purist, probably to a fault. ::)
