I've also heard 35 headed to Europe and only 100 total. It's pure speculation at this point...I don't think anyone knows for sure. I don't even think Fender has a definitive answer yet!mekhem wrote:is this actually right? 200 total 50 for na, 50 for europe, 50 for asia? so where are the other 50 going?

Re: Johnny Marr Sig Jaguar
I maybe reading too much into this but...The original poster read 'Limited Edition'. Yesterday the official release from Johnny Marr reads 'Special Edition'.
I don't know where this figure of 200 has come from? When I wrote to Fender they said they didn't know how many were going to be made.
TBH I think its just been very clever marketing. I say very clever, seen as Fender hasn't done any.

Well - 200 total seems to be the one piece if info that's is consistent.
Well actually, Fender (or Marr himself), has done a pretty good job of marketing this for free starting with Johhny's leak of the 3 custom colors early this year, and then the prototype picture this summer on instagram or Facebook.... So we all knew it was coming, but the bitch was getting someone to admit the date.

Yup, Johnny seems to be doing most of the marketing for this thing himself so far. He was also the original source of the 200 number (followed by a question mark):

Thomann is showing that they have theirs in stock:

Are they the first? It's not exactly close, but I live about 2.5 hours away from there. I was just there last week...had I known they would have a sherwood green in already, I may have waited. Oh well...it's like wonderland in there!

It's funny going back to the first posts of this thread, more than 4 years ago and seeing how much speculation and interest there is many pages later. I think it's a testament to this design of this guitar. Much kudos to Johnny Marr, and to Fender for choosing to work with him on this when there arguably could have been a few other "deserving" offset players. I dig my JM Jag, with or without JM's endorsement on the headstock.

Re: Johnny Marr Sig Jaguar
The Fender site just lists it as another color choice along with white and KO. Could it be that it will become standard?

Re: Johnny Marr Sig Jaguar
I've had one of these reserved from Chicago Music Exchange since shortly after the initial announcement that they were getting five of them or whatever. Yesterday I got back in touch with the guy who set up my order to ask if there's been any update on the date of availability. This may be indicative of the timing for the US, or maybe just for CME, but for anyone curious the guy had this to say:
"I just spoke with Fender, and Fender is estimating shipment in a few weeks now. Mid September/Early October is the ETA for these at the moment."

Regarding limited production:
IMO, Fender isn't dumb. If they see a greater demand than supply, they will surely make more. I think they are just playing it safe with a custom color that might not historically be THAT popular. I could see them "only producing 200" or 50, or 100, or whatever, for the first run.

Re: Johnny Marr Sig Jaguar
I don't think I ever saw Fender saying that they were only making 200, or any number. I've only seen "limited edition" or "limited number", but shoots, everything is available only in limited number. Only place I've seen an actual number thrown around is from dealers, which isn't quite official to me. I work as a rep for a company that puts out "limited quantity" goods of our top tier product and markets them that way. It builds the hype. It's typically targeted toward the core aficionado who appreciates that product, with the eye to trickle down a less expensive or commercial version to the masses to generate the real revenues. We may say there's only 100 avail, but unless the product is actually numbered, ie. 1/100, then there will likely be a few more out there. But not much more. Yes, Fender isn't dumb and will maybe make more than 200, but in my eyes, never really said that. But as a consumer who jumped on a pre-sale because I'm thinking there might only be 200 of an effin amazing Sherwood JM Jag, and sold some other equipment to warrant throwing down $1,700, well, I'd be pretty bummed and would lose trust in one of my favorite brands. What I'd really expect to see is Sherwood being offered soon in a AV65 or CP, which both have likely bigger appeal as models. And then because of success of a ltd color, then possibly seeing JM's sonic blue next year.indiandysummer wrote:Regarding limited production:

If you look at Gibson, they came out with the Cornell ES335 last year, and they said only 250 of each. They were each hand numbered of 250. The demand for the drab green with bigsby edition far far exceeded 250. They are almost impossible to find for sale and looking at the gear page net thread, you can be assured that if Gibson put it in the line, it would fare well. But Gibson is sticking to its guns and not making any more, from what I've read. I respect that. From a biz standpoint, I think they should make something similar, ie throw some Lollartrons in a 335, or make a 335 in a similar green. They sort of did that with the Grohl by bringing back the Trini Lopez years after years of customers clamoring for more DG335's. ......Ah, sorry for the rant. I got nothing better to do than wait for my Sherwood green JM Jag. And damn, this coffee is good...

Re: Johnny Marr Sig Jaguar
Yeah, so I was saying the same thing. There's no documented Fender statement for quantity other than "limited edition." Whatever numbers are being thrown around are either wrong, misinterpreted, or just the a first batch estimate.
I think the first 60 AV65s were "limited," or something, and numbered 1-60, or thereabouts, IIRC. Then they made a bunch more.
Time will tell what happens to these sherwood greenies. I agree Fender seems to be getting more into limited color runs annually, which is pretty cool.

The description for the Facebook pic linked above (https://www.facebook.com/Fender/photos/ ... =1&theater) does say "a limited number of guitars are available in this finish!" But it makes no mention of how many. Also, the color of the guitar in those two most recently linked pics looks gorgeous! I've read here that Fender's current sherwood is too dark. I really haven't ever seen one in person...I'm sure it changes quite a bit with the light being a metallic finish, but if mine looks like that I will be very, very happy!
In other news, now that I've ordered a green one, I've been enjoying my metallic k.o. JM jag more than ever. Gonna be hard to let it go, but hopefully the green one will make it easier...
