I've never seen a KO that has chipped that much. IIRC they used a different finish for the white and the KO... I think the white was a thinner nitro and the KO may have been poly.Ben Logan wrote:The burning question for me is: Will the Sherwood Green finish chip and flake as easily as the Oly White and KO. I could have sworn I read about the KO finishes chipping and flaking like magic shell ice cream topper, just as bad as the Oly White. I hope I imagined that.
You few lucky Sherwood JagMarr owners - It's probably way to early to wager a guess, but how do you think the Sherwood finish will hold up? I think relic'd finishes look really cool on others' guitars, but I like to baby mine.

I think KO and a lot of the metallic recent production colors (such as the 50th anniversary jags) might be acrylic lacquer. I forget where I read this, but I remember reading it somewhere. I could be wrong though.

Does acrylic lacquer hold up better than nitro? My LPB 50th Anniversry is chip free so far.

I've heard the KO holds up much better.
I imagine the Sherwood would be similar.

I don't know about that...my KO is pretty "chippy." I have one of the first ones, so maybe they changed something later? Before I had even played mine, I dropped the bridge cover trying to put it on and it chipped.egosheep wrote:I've never seen a KO that has chipped that much. From what I've seen (shopping for a second hand one), it looks like the early white ones chipped like crazy, while the later ones seem to be less prone to the finish unduly flaking off.

Re: Johnny Marr Sig Jaguar
I baby my guitars and my Oly Marr jaguar has a load of chips, mainly on the back. I got it out the next morning after a gig to polish it and there were 5 chips in the paint on the back. I have absolutely no idea how it happened either.
Talking about the sherwood, I have noticed Johnnys is pretty worn and chipped. That doesn't really give an indication though, as it has had a good amount of use.

Thanks for "chipping in" with the responses, guys. I think chipped finishes look cool. For some reason, I'd want to keep that Sherwood clean though. Probably because it's such a hard to find color. My 70s mustang is chipped to heck, and I love the way it looks.

Yeah this thin finish is making me consider canceling...I'm not a big fan of early wear!

FWIW I had a KO for 6 months and it never got a scratch on it. Seemed like quite a hardy finish.

That is good to know.egosheep wrote:FWIW I had a KO for 6 months and it never got a scratch on it. Seemed like quite a hardy finish.
The store have said I can can have a full refund/cancellation no problem....I know its a limited colour but if the sherwood green chips and comes off really easy I'd be gutted. I don't mind normal nitro wear, but over a long period (eg years not months).
Does anyone else have a recent model?

Re: Johnny Marr Sig Jaguar
I asked Fender about the Sherwood Green Marrguars' finish durability. Here's what they wrote back:
Hello Ben,
The Sherwood Green Jaguar has the same finish as the other color options. It is a Nitrocellulose finish. Which is a thinner finish. So it does chip, crack and wear more that a guitar with a poly finish. It would be under warranty if it is a manufacturing defect. The warranty would not cover wear and tear.
Best Regards
Paul Levesque
