My Baja Telecaster, which is £1000 less in the stores, is absolutely spot on. I don't understand how they can get it wrong on a £1600-1700 guitar.
This next one might be perfect but I'm asking for the store to check before I get it.
Anyone else having issues with the S Green?
The Baja Tele uses a poly finish, whereas the JM Jag is nitro. Poly dries very quickly, nitro takes ages - my CS ESPs cases still wreaked of solvent 10 years later.
The poly coating will always look the way it does now, apart from when it gets chipped whereas the nitro finish will sink into the wood grain as it shrinks over the years and it will show up every scratch and dent along the way.
If Fender is guilty of anything here, it's not leaving the finished bodies long enough to cure before building them.
Outside of Custom Shop, all their production stuff has been using poly since about '62-64.
By the way, don't waste money buying polishes for poly coatings. They're rock hard, a damp cloth is enough.
Hi
Thanks. I think the other issues, eg the out of line neck, were enough to warrant not accepting it, but I agree, it seems the main problem was rushing through the cure process.
I have recently bought a USA 69 Thinline Tele with nitro and the paintwork is much much richer and smoother. No marks/no problems.
Perhaps they wanted these Sherwood Green ones out in time for his tour, so they've rushed some of them....who knows.

I ordered a little something for my SG JM jag today:
Finally get the guitar next week! Hope it's a good 'un, with none of the paint issues we've been hearing about lately. Not sure I'll be able to sen it back if I'm not happy. Hopefully that will be a non-issue! Hope the strap matches and looks good, too.

There were 2 Sherwood Green JM Jags on Ebay 2 days ago, I bought 1 and the other is still there right now. I heard from Fender headquarters today and they told me there will be ZERO more of these made, so this may be your last chance to get a new green one.

Was it an auction, or did you pay the standard price?

Sounds like I need to give a nudge on my order. Assumed with all the ambiguity over the number for the run of these that the 200 was not a hard number. Did Fender give a total production figure when you heard from them?

I told Fender that a number of dealers are taking preorders and saying they are getting more and I wanted to know if they actually would? They said NO MORE ARE BEING MADE. They didnt give a number on what the previous run was. They actually told me to keep an eye on ebay, thats the only way I could get one. You wouldnt think they would be sending potential customers to ebay if they were making more.

I doubt there will be any more. Back to only white/orange KO which are nice as they are anyway.
I am in negotations with the dealer at the moment. Awaiting pics. I must admit I have lost the excitement over this since the last one and I don't want to arrange a day to be in for delivery and be disappointed and have to pack it all back up again. It's just a long cycle of delivery, arranging suitable pickup, refund, etc etc.
Plus, I like the store and I don't want them to be messed about. Best to iron these things out before it arrives.
The attraction of the recent 60s lacquer and road worn versions is setting in - less money, decent pickups, not worried if the finish wears through so much as its much cheaper.
On another aspect of the guitar, how is everyone's green finish holding up?

I've been playing my SWG constantly. Neck is still a little tacky and I managed one decent ding which broke the paint. I was worried it would grow so sealed it with some nail varnish the wife sourced. Other than that the finish doesn't seem that brittle but perhaps I've been careful or lucky so far. Its definitely seeing a lot of use.

I thought the neck was quite sticky on the one I had for a few days, but I wasn't sure if it was anouther aspect of it not curing properly.

Finally got my grubby fingers on my SG jag last night. It is absolutely lovely. It feels different than my metallic KO...I'm sure a lot of that is that the other one is nice and worn in by now. I dont have it here to do a side-by-side comparison, but overall I am already pretty sure that I like the SG better. Which, of course, is exactly what I was hoping for. Build quality is magnificent, setup is also really nice. The finish is absolutely gorgeous, and the fretboard has some very interesting figuring. I usually hope for a very uniform as dark as possible overall board, but this has some variation in it and is almost red in places near the nut. Super beautiful guitar, and I am very happy with it. Already contemplating a spitfire tort guard for it, though that will probably have to wait.
As for the Souldier...not so sure. It is much greener in person, and the guitar itself looks to have a lot more blue in it. It looks nice, but may the colors may be too close, but not close enough to look good together. We'll see what I find while I'm in town...may just go for a boring cream colored strap to completement this exquisite guitar.
TL; DR: sorry.

Also, no dings so far, which is nice. I dropped the bridge cover and put a ding in my KO jag before I even had a chance to play it.
