Would love to try a tort one on my Oly white one. Would really love a spitfire but cash is a bit tight ATM.
AVRI parts fit. I have a spitfire on mine.

Man, I just don't understand how this is happening.
I don't mind slow nitro wear and tear, but it seems the paint is incredibly fragile which is a shame on such a stunning set of colours.
Chips on a 2 week old guitar for no apparent reason....its either Fender made them this way on purpose or they have a problem. Seems like its intentional.
I have no idea how the guitars would last in the current UK cold weather.
Bro, you need to let it go. That's all you've discussed this entire thread, it's known that these guitars have thin finishes.
Thin finishes are one thing (and I have several).......but the ease at which some SG Marrguars are chipping just is not right - it's not simply due to thin finish, but rather a problem with brittleness or adhesion. I believe that there is some sort of issue with the particular lacquer formulation (or possibly prep). Too bad, as I think Sherwood Green is exquisite, but I'd never be satisfied with a top quality (and fairly expensive) guitar with this flaw. It's not an acceptable "feature".

On the finish issue... It seems that fender has been trying to appease us by giving us nitro finishes that wear like vintage finishes. It seems that modern paint formulations and environmental reasons will never really allow that to happen anymore. I mean, I have had many AVRI's and they really don't seem to wear much more than a typical poly finished guitar. I have had several thinskin jags and JMs and they are supposed to be the closest to vintage spec finishes in modern times and they really don't wear that easily either. This new flash coat process Fender is using is VERY thin and I am sure Fender hoped it would wear more naturally like a vintage guitar did. Unfortunately, it seems they just like to chip and flake. The Marr wasn't the first to have this problem, the 50th anniversary Jaguar seems to have been cursed with this problem when it was released. There are many accounts online of new 50th jags flaking paint immediately and Fender having to refinish them under warranty. The Av 65 series supposedly uses this new paint process as well but they don't seem quite as fragile, at least from the posts here. I would have thought fender had it sorted out but the marr jag might prove my thought wrong. I don't know, I think there should be a happy medium between the 62 AVRI which are a bit too durable and new finishes that chip with no effort at all.

Aye I know! I have given up on it

Still lovely guitars. Enjoy!

Enjoy all - cool guitar sans finish.

It sounds like most of them will be 'sans finish' in no time

I bought mine - a second-hand - in almost pristine condition 1 month ago and I have already one chip that occured without my knowing it, and others around the neck pocket when I screwed the neck tight after fiddling with the trussrod.
Conclusion: I don't care. It's too much of an awesome guitar (neck and sounds) to be annoyed by it. I don't like the Olympic white anyway, so I may end up with a good excuse to pay for a refin. But maybe not. Anyway, it's a keeper and I don't plan to sell it ever, so I can live with the chipping.

Been using my Oly as my main axe simce getting my green one. Just covers all the boundaries I need with my covers band. The inevitable haopened last night though, a couple new scars to show for its workload. Seems it doesn't take kindly to a tap from the buckle of my strap
Not in the least bothered though. Already had it in my head I was going to have it resprayed due to the chips already on the back. I've got a load of gigs from now until June covering for someone in a wedding band, so this will be getting the use for that. Once I am finished with that, I am going to have the work done. Unsure what colour yet, it was always going to be the sherwood until I got one so whether another custom colour or not, although I do love Johnnys new black one. I am thinking maybe the same with the black guard, or perhaps a black body with a 60's burgundy spitfire tort....the possibilities are endless.
Here's my little Johnny Marr house setup. Pretty obsessive, but I am really enjoying this setup I might even start gigging it. The GT100 is hours of fun and the Diamond well, I don't know why I've waited so long to get one of these. Adds magic to the sound.

Sweet looking setup there. Just recently got my Oly white marr jag second hand....love it too! Next addition is a new amp. A Fender amp. Maybe a princeton.
I have been thinking about a compressor lately, is the Diamond as good as they say?

Great Marr setup above! Tell us more about the GT-100. I've owned GT's but it's been many years - like at least 12 years.
Does it bring out some Marr tones or do you need some extra pedals to get there?

Just wondering what the weight range is like on these? I've never actually weighed the ones that have passed through my hands, but all seem to be a bit more stout than my '65 AV Jazzmaster. Has anybody actually put their Marr on a scale?

I would say they average about 8.5lb. Lowest I saw was 8.4. Highest was 8.9. Have not weighed mine, but I am fairly certain it is in this range.
