flatfiver those are probably the only guitars that work with a hockey stick headstock.
I had one and gave it to a kid who really wanted it. It was a Hondo copy of that guitar (or something like it).
I got it for 15 bucks and fixed it for him and he still has it.

I love the "hockey stick" headstocks on the yamaha SGV series (as illustrated below), but not much else.

I'm a fan.  I've got the cherry one.  They look a lot better with pickup covers.

That said, the Explorer hockey-stick is the only one I like, but that's probably largely due to the fact that it just really fits in well with the rest of the guitar.

i find it mind boggling that gibson released the explorer in the late 50s. i really can't picture anyone back then not looking totally weird playing one.

I still can't picture anyone in any period SINCE the 50s not looking weird playing one. This is one of my ultimate "OMG what were they thinking" guitars.

Same with the Flying V.

yeah i pretty much agree... but give an explorer to a guitarist in an 80s metal band (like metallica) , and it fits in with the general image. give it to the guitarist in an early 60s rock 'n roll / pop band and it just looks totally out of place. this applies to the flying V to some extent, but to me it's a more time- and genreless design.
