Re: Johnny Marr Sig Jaguar
Well, although it feels heavier to me, it turns out that my new Sherwood Green that I just unboxed is coming in around 8lbs 4oz on my postal scale so I guess it's in range. The SG I was playing last night is under 7 lbs, so putting the Jag on my shoulder felt a whole lot different. Could have a bit to do with weight distribution as well.
For giggles I decided to weigh a few of my Fenders:
- 2001 '62 AVRI Strat: 8lbs 1 oz
- 2000 '52 AVRI Tele: 7lbs 2oz
- 2013 '62 Japan RI w/Bigsby: 8lbs 9oz

I'll take all of your chipped up JM Jag so you don't have to suffer any longer.

I never held onto the Oly White ones long enough to develop any chips.....both arrived with case imprinting on the back so I just decided to stick with my Jazzmaster for a while.
The paint job on the Sherwood Green is better so far. No case imprinting. Also not much in the way of finish sinking, which I expected as it's pretty normalton. If it chips.....so be it. Sherwood is a dynamite color

Just got a call from Chicago Music Exchange and my long-awaited sherwood green Marrguar has arrived. Woot!
Believe all 20 they had on order were spoken for, but if someone has been looking, might be worth a call... (no affiliation)

Hey guys, got my Sherwood Green late last week- really digging it so far. Had a question about the fretboard. I've noticed a lot of them have some really nice figuring of reddish, orange color to them. I've never seen Rosewood with as much as these have had. Mine in particular has a nice amount- I was trying to find out what kind of rosewood was used so I called Fender- They were super nice and just said it is listed as Indian Rosewood on their spec sheet. I've just never seen Indian Rosewood with this amount of consistent red and orange. Just a curious if any of you have this figuring in yours or have heard different on the rosewood used for these Jags.

Thanks for that link! Does indeed look like that wood specified "Pau Ferro." Especially the description on the Wood Database Site "Color can be highly varied, ranging from reddish/orange to a dark violet/brown, usually with contrasting darker black streaks."

Well, I guess I'm the OSGer with the lightest Sherwood Green Marrguar!
When I first took it out of its case at the shop back in October, I was happily surprised to estimate that it weighed just under 8 pounds, and my brand new kitchen scale has confirmed that I was right! It officially comes in at 7 pounds, 14 ounces.
This is the lightest jaguar I've ever owned. I never thought how 8 ounces could make such a difference!
Oh, and NO PAINT CHIPS!!!
...yet.

Hey guys, was a little confused and hoping you could answer this for me. I got my Sherwood JM last week and like most have noted, see that the Low E and High E strings really edge very close to the sides of the frets and do slip off if not careful... And everyone is saying the StayTrem bridge solves this issue. The confusing thing for me is that the bridge that came on my JM Jag looks exactly like a StayTrem Bridge... Are the bridges that come stock on the Jags now basically not "True" StayTrem Bridges? Did Fender just basically replicate a StayTrem design.?? I idid notice that StayTrem says on their website that their bridges use Allen / Hex key' to adjust (whereas my bridge has Phillips screws) I'll buy an authentic StayTrem if it means correcting my E Strings slipping off the board occasionally. I just don't want to buy one if its the same thing I have right now! Thanks for your help!

Only thing similar are plastic parts that are attached to the posts to keep it from moving downward.
The StayTrem is 52mm comapred to the 55mm bridge that came with the guitar, so this will help with the E string issue.
Also, there are no springs with the StayTrem - no buzz.

The stock bridge that comes on the Marr is not the same bridge as the official Staytrem direct from John Moore.tetramime wrote:Hey guys, was a little confused and hoping you could answer this for me. Although the stock bridge has the plastic bushings meant to keep the bridge from lowering over time due to vibration, it has a wider string spacing. The Official Staytrem has the sweet, sweet 52mm spacing that brings the strings in a few extra millimeters to keep those E strings off the edges of your fretboard.
Along with heavier strings, adding a Staytrem was the first thing I did to my Marrguar, and I couldn't be happier.

Awesome, thank you for that confirmation guys! I will get one ordered. Looks like their eBay store is out of them- but they have them in stock on their website with the 7.25 inch radius. Is that how you ordered yours?

I don't remember exactly how I've order parts from him before, so I really can't say. All I do remember is that shipping from the UK to the US east coast usually takes just over a week. YMMV.tetramime wrote:Awesome, thank you for that confirmation guys! I will get one ordered. Simply email John if you have any questions. He's great at responding to queries and will help you with whatever you need.
Good luck!

Re: Johnny Marr Sig Jaguar
So -- my guitar arrived yesterday, in the midst of the polar vortex and -7 F, so I dutifully let it sit 24 hours to acclimate. Not news that this was hard to do. Left work early today and came home for the unveiling. Beautiful guitar, none of the case imprint issue that some have mentioned, E's not hanging too close to the fretboard edge for my unpracticed eye.
But -- it already had one significant paint flake off in one spot (maybe 1/3" diameter, on the bottom butt (?) edge), a pinhead gap in the finish in another spot, and a shallow scratch maybe 3/4" in length on the lower curve. Kind of a bummer on a new, expensive for my budget, guitar. The flake is the only issue that really amounts to anything, I suppose. Not sure what to do: this is supposed to be the last of the run, I want to play it, not look at it, but....

On the positive, got a great serial number, V210100 (last of the American 100?).
Thanks,
-l.
