I'm NOT going to buy one now...(Tele Deluxe Content) 12" Fretboard Radius????!?!

For guitars of the straight waisted variety (or reverse offset).

I, too, want a Tele Deluxe. Chris Hignon of Elliott was the first person I saw who owned one, he had a vintage Walnut stain and a newer Olympic White one. Gorgeous. I played two reissues at GC over the last month or two, a Walnut and a Black one. The Walnut was a better sounding guitar by far. The neck pickup of the Walnut was meatier than the Black's neck pickup. Unfortunately, they sold the Walnut, so I'll have to wait until I find another jewel. Oh, Fender and their inconsistencies.... We still love them, though.

DON'T DO IT!!!!  Get a Tele Custom instead!  Nah, seriously...the Deluxe is a great guitar and I love the bellbottom headstock.  I just think the bridge pickup in the Custom makes it a more versatile guitar.  Also if you get the reissue I believe the neck pup is alnico3 (closer to the original CuNiFe magnets used in the vintage WR humbucker) where the bridge is alnico5 and doesn't really sound like an original WR...more like a traditional Gibson style HB.

That looks sweet. I in a "sparkles" phase right now. I don't know why.

Thanks!  I love looking at sparkles but after painting that one I don't know if I have the stomach, time, or patience to do another...

Another thing I didn't mention about Deluxe vs. Custom...with the Custom not only do you retain the Tele twang and bite of the bridge pickup, you also keep the characteristic tone of a 3 saddle Tele bridge (another reason I prefer the Custom).  They're both cool guitars though.

oof, tried one of these bad boys today at the GC and I have to say, I do agree.
I'm not really one for humberdingers (as John Lennon once called 'em :), but I really enjoyed it quite a bit. Sad thing is I already have a few things I'd like to get first (Jazzmaster... Les Paul Special w/p-90s... Casino... then Tele Deluxe). So it's a tough call.. oof.

Go for it though, Fender all the way!

Nah. I'd like to try one someday, but as far as that particular guitar is concerned, I have one picked out already, just have to bargain with the guy...

Why is it that every "Special Run" Fender has to have larger frets and flatter board?  :k

The same reason they had to ruin the bridge position WR reissues by using Alnico5 magnets and making them sound like a Gibson humbucker  :k

Maybe they're trying to appeal to the Gibson crowd?

I love huge necks and huge frets (and realize I'm in the minority so I don't know why they'd cater to me w/ the special editions) but don't like the Gibson radius.  I can play it but it's not my preference...same with the 7.5 radius...I don't really like it either.  9.5" radius is perfect.

I was under the impression the 12" board was period correct? Anyhow, you've done the right thing in not getting one, in my opinion. I bought one almost as soon as they were released in the UK (longtime Lee Ranaldo wannabe!) and it is the second worst new guitar I've ever bought - in fact considering the pricetag, it was the worst new guitar I've ever bought: the ferrules fell straight out of the back when I changed the strings, the bridge wasn't fitted straight (a common complaint on this model), and the E string just would not intonate.

Don't get me wrong, some people love theirs, and hopefully they sorted out these teething troubles in later production runs, but mine was a stinker. Looked nice, mind.

i'm not sure about the radius, but the originals definitely had chunky frets. one of my friends has a MIM tele deluxe and the neck feels pretty much exactly like my old '74, so it seems likely that the originals were 12" too.

Wow, even the non-special run Deluxes are 12" radius and Medium Jumbos... :k :k :k

Maybe that is period-correct, but that sucks!

Sort of off-topic but:  Do Deluxes have 1 meg pots?
